Rats on cocaine love Miles Davis, and other dumb animal research paid for with tax dollars

Media_httpassetsnydai_iflehsnort! yeah... what comes to mind is John Belushi playing the piano
(Daily News) Taxpayers may feel kind of blue when they discover their dollars went to fund a study to determine rats like to bop to the music of Miles Davis while hopped up on cocaine.
The study, which was performed at Albany Medical College, drew jeers from the animal rights group In Defense of Animals and landed it on its top ten list of Real Ridiculous Research.
The research found that sober rats don’t really like music that much. After the silence, the rats liked Beethoven’s “Fur Elise” more than Miles Davis’s iconic jazz tune “Four.”
But when the rats were given doses of cocaine, their tasted shifted and they gravitated toward the jazz.
... Other studies that made the group’s list included the effect of lemon scent on monkey erections, contagious yawning in chimpanzees and the role of single mothers in the prairie vole community.

Starbucks to phase out coloring from crushed beetles

Labels:
(Reuters) - Starbucks Corp said on its blog on Thursday that it will stop using a natural, government-approved coloring made from crushed beetles in its strawberry flavoring by late June, bowing to pressure from some vegetarian customers.
Starbucks has been using the extract in its strawberry frappuccinos and smoothies, as well as some deserts like raspberry swirl cake.
"After a thorough, yet fastidious, evaluation, I am pleased to report that we are reformulating the affected products to assure the highest quality possible," Cliff Burrows, president of Starbucks U.S., wrote in a blog post.
Instead, the coffeehouse chain said it plans to use lycopene, a natural, tomato-based extract.
Burrows said Starbucks "fell short" of customer expectations. One blogger in March began an online petition to pressure Starbucks to stop the practice.
Ground up cochineal beetles is a commonly used Food and Drug Administration-approved food coloring.

USDA to Let Industry Self-Inspect Chicken

Labels:
Chicken is the top-selling meat in the United States.  The average American eats 84 pounds a year, more chicken than beef or pork.  Sorry red meat, chicken is what's for dinner.  And now the USDA is proposing a fundamental change in the way that poultry makes it to the American dinner table. As early as next week, the government will end debate on a cost-cutting, modernization proposal it hopes to fully implement by the end of the year. A plan that is setting off alarm bells among food science watchdogs because it turns over most of the chicken inspection duties to the companies that produce the birds for sale. The USDA hopes to save $85 million over three years by laying off 1,000 government inspectors and turning over their duties to company monitors who will staff the poultry processing lines in plants across the country. The poultry companies expect to save more than $250 million a year because they, in turn will  be allowed to speed up the processing lines to a dizzying 175 birds per minute with one USDA inspector at the end of the line.  Currently, traditional poultry lines move at a maximum of 90 birds per minute, with up to three USDA inspectors on line. Whistleblower inspectors opposed to the new USDA rule say the companies cannot be trusted to watch over themselves.  They contend that companies routinely pressure their employees not to stop the line or slow it down, making thorough inspection for contaminants, tumors and evidence of disease nearly impossible.  "At that speed, it's all a blur," one current inspector tells ABC News. According to OMB Watch, a government accountability newsletter,  cutbacks at the USDA have coincided with a significant rise in salmonella outbreaks.  The group says 2010 was a record year for salmonella infection and 2011 saw 103 poultry, egg and meat recalls because of disease-causing bacteria, the most in nearly 10 years. The USDA, which has been running a pilot program of the changes in 20 US poultry plants, says the new system is not about cost-cutting, but about bringing food safety up to date.  In background briefings, the agency will not answer on the record questions posed by ABC News, USDA says it plans on increasing the number of scientific tests to look for microbiotic disease invisible to human eye inspectors.  But the agency has not been able to furnish data that shows an increase in lab testing during the 12 year pilot program. Watchdog groups insist a combination of increased testing and government inspection is needed to lower salmonella and other disease outbreaks from chicken.  The National Chicken Council says on its website that while  "plant employees would have an expanded role in inspecting carcasses," USDA inspectors will still be in the plant.  And "we are confident that modernizing the poultry inspection system will enable us to build on our success in providing delicious, safe and wholesome food to our customers." http://news.yahoo.com/usda-let-industry-self-inspect-chicken-191142649--abc-n...

#Bono leaves message: A dog called #Hope // #ObamaEatsDogs

U2 FRONTMAN Bono, on holiday in Israel with his family, has left a poetic note at the luxury Jerusalem Hotel where they were staying.
The internationally renowned singer left the message in the guest book of the King David Hotel, according to the website BuzzFeed.
He has been visiting Israel with his wife and two sons.
The note, on headed hotel paper says: “Hope is like a faithful dog” and is signed by Bono, Ali, Elijah and John. It also includes Bono’s sketch of a dog.
The letter says: “In Jerusalem, hope springs eternal.
"Hope is like a faithful dog, sometimes she runs ahead of me to check the future, to sniff it out and then I call to her: Hope, Hope, come here, and she comes to me. I pet her, she eats out of my hand and sometimes she stays behind, near some other hope maybe to sniff out whatever was. Then I call her my Despair. I call out to her. Here, my little Despair, come here and she comes and snuggles up, and again I call her Hope."
He signed, "With great thanks for great room in great hotel in great city, Bono."
Israeli newspaper Harretz reports that Bono was believed to be in Israel for a private visit, and did not hold any performances.
If Obama's slogan was HOPE... and he eats dogs... what do you think Obama would do with a dog named HOPE?

(Pat Dollard) Excerpted from TMZ: Acura has issued a full-on apology … after we ran a story that the car company’s ad people sought an African American actor to play a car dealer who was “not too dark.”

The commercial — which featured Jerry Seinfeld and Jay Leno and ran during the Super Bowl — was cast by an agency that sent out a casting sheet, looking for a “nice looking, friendly, not too dark” African American actor to play the role of dealer.
Acura just issued this statement: “We apologize to anyone offended by the language on the casting sheet used in the selection of actors for one of our commercials.”
The car company added, “We sought to cast an African-American in a prominent role in the commercial, and we made our selection based on the fact that he was the most talented actor.”
As for the language “not too dark,” Acura says, “The casting sheet was only now brought to our attention. We are taking appropriate measures to ensure that such language is not used again in association with any work performed on behalf of our brand.”

my Jerry... what nice liberals you work with!

Think Progress Distorts the words of Eric Cantor

Look how the left uses an honest analysis on hate by a Republican.  Eric is honest and right, but his words have been distorted. There is a lot more hate in Obama's camp then in Eric's, but look how Obama's people use his integrity against him. Talk about desperation going on with Obama. Think Progress should be ashamed. Take care of your own. Recognize that Jews should be allowed to live where they want and stop ethnically cleansing Jews in the middle east like Obama is in Judea and Samaria before you point out the freak in the Republican party who got how many electoral votes in the last primary? No... really... how many electoral votes did Ron Paul really get?

Man Arrested After Facebook Picture Shows Him Siphoning Gas From Cop Car

Media_httpcbsclevelan_mvifh(h/t Pat Dollard)Excerpted from CBS Local: JENKINS, Ky. (CBS Cleveland) – A local man was arrested Monday for siphoning gas from a police cruiser. He may have gotten away with the crime — if he hadn’t posted a picture of himself in the act on his Facebook page.
Jenkins Police Chief Allen Bormes told CBS Cleveland that 20-year-old Michael Baker had posted the picture last Friday.
“It was then forwarded to one of our officers … and it went from there,” he added.
According to CBS affiliate WYMT, Baker’s girlfriend, Joann Sandelin, snapped the photo. The couple had intended for it to be a joke. “We was just standing there and thought it would be funny to take a picture and then post it on Facebook,” Baker told the station.
The couple was initially apologetic for their actions.

Hypocrisy from Jewish Democrats, not surprised, but Romney did the same thing

Labels:
(Carl) Five years ago, when Mitt Romney opened his Presidential campaign at the Henry Ford Museum, which is named for one of America's most notorious anti-Semites, one of the first to criticize him was Ira Forman, then director of the National Jewish Democratic Council, and now President Obama's liaison to the Jewish community, was the first out of the gate to criticize Romney. Now, with President Obama about to appear at the same museum, Forman and the NJDC are both silent.
“Once again the NJDC has one set of rules when it comes to Republicans and a different standard as it relates to Democrats,” said Matt Brooks, executive director of the Republican Jewish Coalition, the NJDC’s chief political rival.
“We see the shameless hypocrisy of the NJDC, which was so quick to attack Mitt Romney for an event he held at the Ford Museum, yet remains silent when Obama hosts a major event at the same Museum,” Brooks added.
Another longtime political insider said that the NJDC has become an ineffective embarrassment to the Democrats.
“They are a shameless organization that time has already forgotten, and the next time we see a press release from them attacking Mitt Romney for hosting an event supposedly with anti-Semites, the voters will know there is no validity to such claims,” said a senior GOP adviser who tracks the Jewish community.
The insider added, “The NJDC, heretofore, has lost all credibility on these issues. It can never again attack a Republican candidate on issues like anti-Semitism.”
The NJDC has become Obama's Jewish council, with a commitment to liberalism and to Obama, but no commitment to anything Jewish. Is anyone really surprised?
I have a question for Romney. Instead of pointing out how the Democrats are as bad as you are... do you think you could apologize for mentioning a false 1967 Border in a PBS interview?
