I don't get it either. The place was vacant... right? and like usual they wanted it after the Jews did something with it.(MFS Other) Palestinian Husseini family loses Shepherd Hotel court fight. (JPost). The High Court of Justice ruled Monday that a prominent Palestinian family could not claim ownership of a landmark and now derelict building in east Jerusalem - paving the way for a Jewish settlement project. The Husseini family said the Shepherd Hotel, now partially demolished, is a symbol of the Palestinian rights to their land and to east Jerusalem, and criticized the court ruling.
The Shepherd Hotel was built in the 1930s and served as the home of Jerusalem grand mufti Haj Amin Husseini, who fought the British and Zionists. It was declared "absentee property" by Israel after it was captured and annexed to east Jerusalem in 1967. The title was transferred to an Israeli firm, which sold it in 1985 to Irving Moskowitz, a Florida businessman and patron of Jewish settlers. In 2009, the Jerusalem city hall approved a project to replace the building with a block of 20 apartments. Israeli officials said Washington had voiced its opposition to the plan to Israel's ambassador in the United States. "This property, which is legitimately ours, represents the Palestinians' rights to their land and to Jerusalem," Mona Husseini, heir to the property and Husseini's granddaughter, said on Monday. In dismissing the family's case, the court said too much time had passed since Israeli authorities had transferred the property to private developers for a legal challenge to be brought, a lawyer for the petitioners said. The family said it had been unaware at the time that the site had been sold off."The court clearly sided with the other party, and this proves that the Israeli courts have never been fair to Palestinians," said Adnan Husseini, the Palestinian Authority-appointed mayor of Jerusalem and a member of the extended family. The family said, however, they would continue to seek legal action "against the odds."Read the full story here.

How to misuse statistics: Israel accused of jailing too many journalists

(EOZ) From Justin Martin at Columbia Journalism Review:wow... tricky
At the end of each year, the Committee to Protect Journalists counts the number of journalists imprisoned worldwide and lists the countries in which they’re locked up.
These data are very helpful, but I think we can consider them under a new lamp by taking into account each country’s size. China and Eritrea, for example, have about the same number of journalists rotting in prison, 27 and 28 respectively. But the population of China is over 250 times that of the small dictatorship.
Any country that unjustly arrests or imprisons a single journalist is democratically suspect, of course, and that includes you, America. Ratings of press freedom in the United States tanked after 2011, as counts of arrested journalists in this country soared. Still, though police in the United States tend to arrest journalists filming or otherwise documenting unrest, their bosses usually get embarrassed at the media blowback and drop the charges. Imprisoning journalists for months or years at a time is another matter and, other than the outright murder of journalists in places like Russia and Syria, the long-term jailing of reporters is the offense with which the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) is most concerned.
For a new take on this scourge, I quickly calculated the highest twelve ratios of jailed journalists to a country’s population size.
So we see that according to this criterion, Israel jails more journalists per capita than any other nation except for Eritea.
Sounds damning, right? (read on... it's misleading, but I would of never caught this)
Pentagon claims it has no records of Osama bin Laden’s death?
look... I've never been a huge fan of conspiracy theories. my natural inclination is skepticism... but this is very odd. The Obama administration might be projecting what they think was the normal behavior of a administration based on what they "think" the Bush administration did, but it is obvious that Obama is less transparent then the GOP ever were.

(MFS OTHER) Chutzpah ! Pentagon claims "has no records of Osama bin Laden’s death".(CPO).Obama touts the Navy SEALS’ raid and killing of Osama bin Laden in his hideaway compound in Abbotabad, Pakistan, as one of, if not the greatest, achievements of his administration. Reportedly, the administration even disclosed details of the raid to Hollywood for an upcoming movie, •Zero Dark Thirty, directed by Kathryn Bigelow.
The movie is scheduled to be released — SURPRISE! — on October 12, 2012, within a month of the presidential election.Joseph Straw •reports •for the N.Y. Daily News, Aug. 11, 2011, that the CIA defended its collaboration with the maker of Zero Dark Thirty. CIA spokesman Preston Golson said that such collaboration with filmmakers has precedent and is part of the CIA’s “public outreach.” Despite the CIA’s insistence, Congressman Peter King (R-Long Island), chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee, has demanded that the Pentagon and CIA inspectors general investigate whether the agencies breached policy in this case, in particular whether the filmmakers saw classified material or got access to personnel working under cover.Given that, it is curious, to say the least, that, in response to a Freedom of Information Act request made by the Associated Press, •the Pentagon says it has no records — not one photo, not one video, not even an e-mail — of bin Laden’s death?
Richard Lardner •reports •for the Minneapolis Star Tribune, March 15, 2012:Government officials have openly discussed details of the mission [to kill Osama bin Laden] in speeches, interviews and television appearances, but the administration won’t disclose records that would confirm their narrative of that fateful night. •The Associated Press asked for files about the raid in more than 20 separate [FOIA] requests, mostly submitted the day after bin Laden’s death. The Pentagon told the AP this month it could not locate any photographs or video taken during the raid or showing bin Laden’s body. It also said it could not find any images of bin Laden’s body on the Navy aircraft carrier where the al-Qaida leader’s body was taken. The Pentagon said it could not find any death certificate, autopsy report or results of DNA identification tests for bin Laden, •or any pre-raid materials discussing how the government planned to dispose of bin Laden’s body if he were killed. It said it searched files at the Pentagon, U.S. Special Operations Command in Tampa, Fla., and the Navy command in San Diego that controls the USS Carl Vinson, the aircraft carrier used in the mission. The Defense Department told the AP in late February it could not find any emails about the bin Laden mission or his “Geronimo” code name that were sent or received in the year before the raid by William McRaven, the three-star admiral at the Joint Special Operations Command who organized and oversaw the mission. •It also could not find any emails from other senior officers who would have been involved in the mission’s planning.
Note: WantToKnow team member Prof. David Ray Griffin, in his book •Osama bin Laden: Dead or Alive?, lays out the extensive evidence that bin laden died in December 2001, and that since that time Pentagon psyops had been keeping him “alive” with fake videos and audiotapes to maintain a crucial pretext for the ever-expanding “war on terror.” •Could it be that the Pentagon will produce no records of its purported “death raid” because in fact it will reveal major manipulations involving bin Laden’s death?
On August 6, 2011, •three months after the supposed killing of bin Laden, 22 members of the exact same •Navy SEALS Team 6 •who had conducted the Abbotabad raid •all died in a helicopter crash •in Afghanistan.Dead men don’t tell tales.Read the full story •here.

(Israel Hayom H/T @WarpedMirrorPMB)
Kalashnikov used in the attack was given to the terrorists by an officer in the Palestinian intelligence service.
The Israel Security Agency (Shin Bet) and Israel Defense Forces recently arrested 13 Palestinians on suspicion of being behind a shooting attack on an IDF force in Ramallah on Jan. 20, the security service said in a statement Monday.
There were no casualties during the shooting attack at the Am'ari refugee camp in Ramallah, but some damage was caused to a military vehicle.
Among those arrested are some employees of the Red Crescent, the Palestinian Red Cross, in Ramallah, one of whom also served as a goalie in the Palestinian Olympic soccer team.
It was also revealed by the Shin Bet that one of the weapons used in the attack, a Kalashnikov, was given to the terrorists by an officer in the Palestinian intelligence service, which oversees employees of the Red Crescent.
The 13 suspects who were arrested, all residents of the Am'ari refugee camp, revealed in their interrogations that they took part in extensive activities against IDF forces guarding the security fence.
The main suspects linked to the shooting attack at the IDF force in January are:
Salah Bararel, born in 1989, a resident of Am’ari, affiliated with Hamas, employed as a guard at the Red Crescent.
Omar Abu Ravis, born in 1989, a resident of Am’ari, affiliated with Hamas, employed at the Red Crescent in Ramallah, is also the goalie of the Palestinian Olympic soccer team.
Fuad Ousha, born in 1989, a resident of Am’ari; barber shop owner (in custody of Palestinian security forces).
Ahmed Khattab, born in 1989, a resident of Am’ari, worked as a guard at the Red Crescent.
During an interrogation of the suspects, it was revealed that Salah Bararel and Omar Abu Ravis used two Kalashnikov rifles, which Ravis received from his friend Manzar Abbas two months earlier, to carry out the attack.
Fuad Ousha acted as a lookout during the attack.
After the attack, the shooters left the rifles inside a bag in an abandoned house, and allegedly planned to transfer them to a new hiding spot the next day. Eventually, Omar Abu Ravis gave the weapons, in the bag, to Ahmed Khatab, who after Abu Ravis’ arrest transferred them back to Manzar Abbas.
During their questioning, the suspects also revealed that they had planned other shooting attacks against IDF troops stationed at Attara, Geva checkpoint, Atarot checkpoint, even in Maaleh Adumim, Ofra and Nablus.
