A 50 foot billboard of Academy Award winning actress Natalie Portman marketing Dior cosmetics has gone up in Lebanon’s capital city of Beirut, and anti-Israel Lebanese bloggers are not thrilled.
Portman, who is a duel American and Israeli citizen, was born in Jerusalem and grew up in New York.
“Since each contact or with an Israeli occupation in Lebanon is considered a crime, you do not think hanging a poster size of 15 meters with the Zionist Jerusalem is illegal?,” wrote one Lebanese blogger.
“Portman, who was born in Jerusalem and whose real last name is Hershlag, has spoken at length about her love for her home country and how she wants to move back there once there is peace. She is very active in Zionist groups, though she is also a human rights activist—as long as those humans aren’t Palestinians,” wrote another.

The fact that Catherine Ashton, the EU foreign affairs chief, said at the weekend that Adnan's case was of "great concern" suggests to us that she and her staff have too much free time on their hands or they lack a basic understanding of how to tell the difference between the terrorists and their targets.

Report: Palestinian Authority Offered To Aid United States In Pakistan, Somalia, Iraq & Afghanistan

is reporting that it has obtained documents, which shows that the Palestinian Authority offered to help the United States in countries experiencing security tensions, such as Pakistan, Somalia, Afghanistan and Iraq.
In addition, the documents discuss Palestinian efforts to help media outlets tied to the Iranian opposition.
InLightPress asked Saeb Erekat, the Palestinian official reportedly referenced in the documents, whether the allegations are true. According to Erekat, they are a “fabrication and incorrect and funny at the same time.” According to Erekat, the report was aimed at derailing reconciliation between Hamas and Fatah.
A Hamas official in Gaza told InLightPress that it is against intervening in foreign states, but that it would not be surprised if the Palestinian Authority did such a thing as it is already assisting Israel in some security areas.

Chavez running for seat on top UN rights body at View from Geneva

GENEVA, Feb. 22 – The governments of Venezuela’s Hugo Chavez and Pakistan are slated to run unopposed for seats on the UN’s 47-nation Human Rights Council this year, reported the independent monitoring group UN Watch, citing sources close to the UN.
“It’s an outrage,” said Hillel Neuer, executive director of the Geneva-based UN Watch, who announced the formation of an international coalition of parliamentarians and human rights groups to block both candidacies, “due to their poor records on human rights protection at home and on human rights promotion at the UN.”
Last year, UN Watch exposed Syria’s candidacy to the council, and initiated a diplomatic campaign that pressured Damascus to drop its bid at the last minute. The non-governmental watchdog also led a successful campaign of 70 groups to remove Libya’s Qaddafi regime from the council.
Neuer said that Venezuela and Pakistan were among the few states condemned for gross human rights violations at a recent summit of human rights dissidents, organized by UN Watch and 25 other human rights groups. The resolutions adopted on both countries are being circulated to UN diplomats in hopes they will be addressed at the council’s opening 2012 session next week. (MORE)
