NAACP Calls for an End to the War on Drugs

Labels: » » »
The NAACP recently adopted a resolution calling for the abolition of the War on Drugs, emphasizing the harm that it inflicts on minority communities. This is a sea change for the nation’s most prominent black civil rights organization.
The NAACP resolution is far from the first indication that the War on Drugs inflicts great harm on poor minorities. Scholars and commentators of widely divergent ideologies have long recognized this point. More information about it here and here. The NAACP resolution is a milestone because of the organization’s prestige. The NAACP now joins a growing list of prominent groups that have called for an end to the War on Drugs in recent months, including the Global Commission on Drug Policy and a high-profile British government commission.
Complete abolition of the War on Drugs is not yet politically feasible. But the increasing recognition that the war causes more harm than good does create some political space to move towards that goal in an incremental way. Sadly, the Obama Administration refuses to take even the most modest and politically popular steps towards legalization. In fairness, most Republicans have been as bad or worse on the issue. Change we can believe in may well be coming in this field. But it may take a few more years of generational replacement for it to happen. via volokh.com
Many black leaders are quite Conservative in their values. This is not a "LEFT" wing organization. This is actually a watershed moment for the movement.

An Arab glove slap! (in your face free world!)
Kingdom Holding Co., the investment firm headed by billionaire Prince Alwaleed bin Talal, said it signed a $1 billion deal with the Saudi bin Laden Group to build Kingdom Tower on the outskirts of the Red Sea city of Jeddah. The Saudi construction giant is owned by the family of Usama bin Laden, which disavowed the late Al Qaeda terror boss years ago.

Berkshire Jewish film festival to show 'Palestinian' propaganda movie

Labels:
It's been panned by the critics, it's done poorly at the box office (except at the UN), but what would a 'Jewish' film festival be without at least one piece of 'Palestinian' propaganda.
On August 15 Miral dramatizes the conflict of a Palestinian girl in the wake of Arab-Israeli war.
Not exactly....
Do yourself a favor, and if you're in the area, go to Tanglewood that night instead. I know, Tanglewood is off that night. Just go sit in the grass. Much more intellectually stimulating.
American Jewry's minds are so open their brains are falling out....

Iranian economy with our sanctions grows faster than US economy

Labels: » »
In Iran, those sanctions that are designed to stop the country's nuclear program are going just great according to the International Monetary Fund. The economy grew at a rate of 3.2% in 2010-11. That's a better rate than the United States....
The International Monetary Fund gave a rosy portrayal of Iran's economy in a report issued Wednesday, saying it grew by 3.2 % in 2011, contradicting its earlier assessment and surprising Iran analysts who contend that the economy is shrinking.

The Solution to the Israeli Housing Problem... DUH!

These guys get it. They really get it!
A group of 'hilltop youth,' the kids in their teens and 20's who go around setting up 'outposts' as precursors to Jewish towns in Judea and Samaria, have joined in the 'housing crisis' protests, setting up 15 tents on the corner of Allenby Road in central Tel Aviv. Their goal is to let the other protesters know that more building in Judea and Samaria is the answer to the 'housing crisis.'
The hilltop youth, a group of young people who were born in the settlements and who belong to the extreme right [see what I mean about the news reading like an editorial page here? CiJ], appeared on Rothschild Boulevard wearing shirts with slogans such as "Tel Aviv is Jewish" and "Jews, let us be victorious."
The activists planned to set up dozens of additional tents in the coming days.
Meir Butler, one of the hilltop youth leaders, told Haaretz, "We are here to say 'yes' to the social protests, but to also say that there is a solution." The solution, he said, "is to build in Judea and Samaria."
Earlier on Wednesday, approximately 200 right-wing activists marched from Habima Square, shouting, "No to bringing down the government, yes to solving the crisis."
The activists also said they want a solution to the housing crisis and called on the government to lower the price of basic products by 20 percent. Extremist Baruch Marzel also came to Rothschild Boulevard and spoke to some of the protesters.
The organizations that took part in the right-wing march included Im Tirzu, Zo Artzenu, Yisrael Sheli, Bnei Akiva, Ra'ananim, The Committee of South Tel Aviv Neighborhoods, and Yesha council representatives.
Carl: And none of them are being supported by European governments.
I've been criticized for not serving in the IDF, but I want to go to Israel right now and hang out with these kids in the photo. They make me proud! They are so right! Land for Piece isn't just a bad military position. It also hurts people who need homes. The Jews can't go elsewhere. These youth are my heroes. I wish I were half the man these kids are.
