Israel Has Most Lawyers in World Per Capita

Labels: »

Israel ranks first in the number of lawyers and 43rd in the number of judges, relative to the country's population. It is also in 21st place in the number of civil cases filed, an internal report by Israel's Courts Administration stated.
The report compared Israeli data from last year to comparable information from 55 other Western and Middle Eastern countries.
The information provides a statistical portrait of the handling of civil cases at the trial court level, but does not include domestic relations or labor matters. Last year, according to the report, Israel had an average of eight judges per 100,000 inhabitants. At the top of the country list by this measure was the tiny principality of Monaco, with 64 judges per 100,000 people. The Czech Republic had 29 judges per 100,000; Russia had 24; Ireland had seven; and the Palestinian Authority an average of slightly fewer than five judges per 100,000 people.
The 2010 statistics reflect a relative shortage of judges in Israel, taking into consideration the country's population, the number of lawyers and the volume of civil files in the judicial system. On the other hand, Israel tops the list in the number of attorneys, with 585 per 100,000 residents. At the other end of the list, Scotland had five lawyers per 100,000 people.
Not so sure this is something to be proud of... and it isn't surprising either.  It does show a high rate of education... I guess. I might be biased.

Maan News Agency: Hamas media: Shalit 'fasting' during holy month

Labels:
BETHLEHEM (Ma’an) -- The Hamas-affiliated Ar-Risala website reported Wednesday that captured Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit has decided to fast during Ramadan.
The report comes as talks have stalled between Hamas and Israel over the possible exchange of hundreds of prisoners for Shalit, who was captured in a 2006 raid.
The report seemed to be intended to increase pressure on the Israeli government, whose prime minister has faced criticism over his perceived failure to prioritize reaching a deal with Hamas.
“A popular proverb goes that if one lives in a community for more 40 days, he becomes one of them. This seems to have come true in the Gaza Strip," the report in Ar-Risala said.
After years in Gaza, Shalit has become "embarrassed to ask for food during Ramadan despite the fact that his captors do not deny him that right,” the report, in Arabic, continued.
Shalit thinks the government "lost interest," it said, and he "abandoned Jewish traditions to mimic Muslims after the good treatment he received from his captors, even while they are fasting.”
The Israeli government, added Ar-Risala, is too busy with the demonstrations and protests in Tel Aviv, and so Shalit could not hear recently on Israel’s Channel 1 TV station any news about him.
The report claims Shalit noticed the protests against housing problems became too big, and that caused him "depression and disappointment. He lost hope of any prisoner swap deal that can secure his freedom."
He seems to be saying, “Shalit wants to topple the regime,” the report claimed.
Shalit was captured by Hamas and other Palestinian factions on June 25, 2006 in a cross-border raid by Palestinian fighters near the Kerem Shalom crossing east of Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip.
He has remained captive through two governments and a devastating war on Gaza. Efforts have been exerted by Egyptian, German and Western mediators to try and finalize a prisoner swap.
Israel decided recently to toughen imprisonment conditions of Palestinian inmates in an attempt to put pressure on Hamas to give up on some of the conditions they stipulated for a prisoner swap.
The Red Cross has criticized Hamas' refusal to allow Shalit visitors and other rights typically afforded to prisoners of war. Hamas says agreeing to these requests would compromise the soldier's location.
Not that I had any respect for the Hamas captors of Gilad Shalit, but this is just sickening.

Drunken Bernanke Tells Truth: “Unemployment Really At 16%” – “USD Worthless”
So, Bernanke tells the truth–for once in his life. But, he had to feign the courage by getting drunk to tell people the truth.
EXCERPT: ‘I might as well tell you that a truer estimate of the U.S. unemployment rate is actually up around 16 percent, with a 0.7 percent annual rate of economic growth if we’re lucky—if we’re lucky.’

Boy, 17, burns his rapist to death

The progressives say that gay people should suffer like supposedly women do in Marriage... and the progressives think marriage is essentially rape... so I suppose in Boston this is what we should expect. I don't blame this guy at all.
A 17-year-old boy strangled a family friend with a dog chain before dousing his body with lighter fluid and setting it on fire, he allegedly confessed to police. Marco Tulio Flores told police in Boston that he murdered 27-year-old Jaime Galdamez as 'punishment' because he had sexually abused him throughout his childhood - and he wanted to make sure it didn't happen to anyone else, police say. He walked into a police station and turned himself in the day after officers found Galdamez's charred remains in his illegal basement flat. The grisly murder happened on May 23. Flores duct-taped Galdamez's face and wrists, police said, then used a dog chain to strangle him. He soaked the victim's body in charcoal lighter fluid then stole a flat-screen television and two computers, he told prosecutors. He returned several hours later, leaned in through a window he'd left open and set the 27-year-old's body on fire before fleeing, police said. Two families with six children lived in the rooms above Galdamez, and all were at home when the fire started. Firefighters quickly extinguished the flames, and no-one was hurt. They found Galdamez's badly burned body in his bed. The next morning Flores walked into a police station with his brother and confessed to the murder, the fire and the theft. He claimed Galdamez had sexually abused him for years, and said he killed him as punishment - and to stop anyone else being molested. Assistant District Attorney Ian Polumbaum told the Boston Herald that Flores had never told police or family about the abuse. Mr Polunbaum said it appeared Flores had planned the killing 'over days an possibly weeks. This was not a situation in which something just came over him and he snapped.' James Budreau, Flores's defence lawyer, said Flores was under a lot of stress and had always been a 'kind and caring' person before. He told 7 News: 'He's a young man, 17-years-old, no criminal history at all. The allegations are clearly out of character with who he is. Flores was arraigned yesterday on charges of first-degree murder and arson. He was held without bail and will appear in court again on September 13. via  your jewish news

Saudi Arabia: Stop Trial of Journalist Criminal Defamation Charges for Web Article Alleging Extortion

Al-Juhani accuses the head of al-Huta’s environmental health section of trying to pressure more than 200 shop owners into paying 5,000 Saudi riyals (US$1,333) each as a contribution to the annual banquet the municipality gives to mark the end of the fasting month Ramadan. The article says that the health inspector abused his position by threatening to impose fines against the shop owners if they failed to comply. Al-Juhani told Human Rights Watch that his sources were shop owners, a high municipal official, and a local journalist.
Al-Juhani also told Human Rights Watch that the health official filed a complaint against al-Juhani, asking the court to punish him and award official damages for harm suffered. The prosecutor, on December 6, 2010, charged al-Juhani with criminal defamation. Al-Juhani should not be criminally prosecuted for what he wrote, regardless of the truth of his allegations, because of the chilling effect of criminal sanctions on peaceful expression, Human Rights Watch said. If the official considers the article defamatory, he should file a civil suit for compensation for any claimed harm to his reputation. In considering civil suits, Saudi courts should consider the importance of freedom of expression in respecting the right of journalists to write about public figures.

Saudi Arabia has no written criminal law defining defamation or any attendant penalties. Defining the elements of a crime and any penalty remains up to the individual judge’s interpretation of Sharia precepts. In addition to the country’s Sharia courts, there are executive tribunals for labor, commercial, and media disputes under the respective ministries. Although the tribunal judging press violations is not an independent court, in several cases Saudi journalists preferred that this executive body rather than Sharia courts review matters relating to the media. Sharia courts in the 2005 and 2006 have tried cases for criminal defamation in media publications before ministerial instructions transferred them to the Culture and Information Ministry.via hrw.org

...that is if you trust my source... which has not been reputable in regards to Israel. I do admit that it gets redundant to point out the flaws in Saudi society and I suppose HRW does it to show that there is some kind of fairness.  The reality is there isn't.  This story is probably not outstanding.  The irony is in America today... especially in the state of Washington we have a situation where the state is doing to same thing to men and they do it for feminists.  The ability to write the TRUTH (even if you disagree about what TRUTH is) should not be taken away.

Rare Speech for Pollard from Floor of Congres

Media_httpwwwisraelna_cxaes"I believe that in addition to the arguments based on the excessive length of the sentence, I think, the fact that Mr. Pollard has served for so long, clearly the deterrent effect is there; we are not asking that he be pardoned; we are not condoning his crime,” the Massachusetts  legislator said in his short speech.via israelnationalnews.com
The only crime Pollard committed was defending his country. Barney Frank is playing politics. Not only should Pollard be pardoned, he should be celebrated as a hero. The information he was trying to get from the state dept was information on Hussein's chemical arsenal... that the U.S. enabled. The Democrats should be ashamed of themselves... so should the Republicans though.
