Venezuela: Anti-Semitism Keeps Escalating

Venezuela.jpg
The Jewish Community Confederation of Venezuela (CAIV) filed a complaint to the Venezuelan attorney general to denounce the promotion of the pamphlet The Protocols of the Elders of Zion by the main state-owned radio.
On April 4, the known radio host of National Venezuelan Radio (NVR), Cristina Gonzalez, in her program 'La noticia final' highly recommended that her listeners read the anti-Semitic pamphlet. The Protocols of the Elders of Zion is a fraudulent anti-Semitic text -- one of the main proponents of which was Adolf Hitler -- that was put into circulation in Russia around the turn of the 20th century by the czarist secret police, with the goal of spreading the idea of world-wide Jewish conspiracy.
During her broadcast, Gonzalez said she admires the Jewish community and the "non-Zionist" Israelis, before illustrating what she called "little pearls" from the Protocols to explain why Zionists have concentrated so much power and wealth. Gonzalez, convinced of the veracity of the Protocols, also suggested that the "Zionists," because of their alleged control of finance and media, were to blame for recent events in the Middle East.
The CAIV released a statement which stated that the Venezuelan Jews "know that the promotion of this anti-Semitic leaflet only generates hatred and discrimination, therefore violating the constitution of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela." The Anti Defamation League (ADL) joined in solidarity the CAIV in denouncing the Venezuelan radio host. "President Hugo Chavez has not lived up to his word to denounce anti-Semitism in Venezuela," said Abraham H. Foxman, ADL's National Director. "It is shocking that the Venezuelan state-owned radio would promote the Protocols as if it were an accurate and factual description of Jews, when in fact it is the worst manifestation of conspiratorial anti-Semitism. It is irresponsible for any government to allow its airwaves to be used to promote a conspiratorial anti-Semitic tract used to vilify Jews through history. […] Unfortunately, Gonzalez's broadcast proves that the twin hatreds of Zionism and Judaism continue to converge and co-mingle in Venezuela."
In 2009, Chavez severed diplomatic relations with Israel, in protest of the military actions in the Gaza Strip. During the same month, a synagogue in Caracas was vandalized, and swastikas were sprayed on the walls. Later on, authorities arrested eleven people, including eight police officers. A few days later after the act of vandalism, speaking at the World Jewish Congress conference in Jerusalem, Abraham Levy Ben Shimol, president of the Jewish community in Venezuela, accused Chavez of promoting anti-Semitism and giving it legitimacy. As stated by Tel Aviv University's annual report on anti-Semitism, in Venezuela, "Ant-Semitic allegations are an integral part of the extreme anti-Israel propaganda of governmental and pro-Chavez circles."
A year later, in 2010, during an interview to the Atlantic magazine, Cuban Leader Fidel Castro said that the Iranian President should stop denying the Holocaust and that the Jews have lived a hard existence. "There is nothing that compares to the Holocaust," he said. Several days later, Chavez wanted to show himself to be no less than his mentor. On September 8 2010, Chavez said that "We respect and love the Jewish people;" and announced that he wanted to meet with the leaders of the Venezuelan Jewish community, perhaps thinking that this move would improve his political image abroad.
In September 2010, therefore, Chavez met with CAIV's representatives to discuss their concerns about anti-Semitism in the Venezuelan state media. "We reviewed the negative consequences that hateful expressions can lead to and how they can affect the security and integrity of the institutions and individuals that make up the community of Venezuelan Jews," the CAIV stated after the meeting. Subsequently, the Jewish confederation said that "there was a noticeable decrease in anti-Semitic rhetoric." The Chavez government then even decided to increase security at synagogues and Jewish community centers for the Jewish festivities.
However, anti-Semitism seems to be still a tangible phenomenon among government supporters and in the State-controlled media. The Simon Wiesenthal Center called for the Organization of American States (OAS) to intervene against renewed State anti-Semitism in Venezuela. In a letter to OAS Secretary General, José Miguel Insulza, Shimon Samuels (Director for International Relations of the Wiesenthal Center) and Sergio Widder (Director for Latin America) wrote that the promotion of the The Protocols of the Elders of Zion by the Venezuelan radio host is yet another example of Venezuela's State driven anti-Semitism. "The worsening situation not only endangers Venezuela's Jews, it violates the delicate fabric of human rights in the Americas," Samuels and Widder concluded.
The promotion of the Protocols by a Venezuelan state-run media is not an isolated incident. In 2008, a radio host from the same radio station, NVR, said that: "Hitler's partners were Jews…like the Rockefellers, who were Jews [Editors' note: The Rockefellers are not Jews]. These were not the Jews murdered in the concentration camps. [Those killed] were working-class Jews, Communist Jews, poor Jews, because the rich Jews were the ones behind the plan to occupy Palestine." In 2010, the pro-Chavez website Aporrea published an anti-Semitic article echoing the Protocols' rhetoric: "The essence of Judaism is not to be found in the Pentateuch or in the Torah, but in the realities of capitalism. […] This means that Judaism will reach its end with the advanced realities of communism, in which there won't be a State, social classes, antagonist contradictions. […] And, most importantly, money and usury, which are at the base of Judaism, will disappear."
This anti-Semitic propaganda is the core of Chavez's political thinking and propaganda. It comes as no surprise, then, that the intellectual circle surrounding the Venezuelan president is made by notorious anti-Semitic figures.
One of Chavez's advisors and close confidantes was Argentinean sociologist, Norberto Ceresole, who passed away in 2003, and was known for being a Holocaust denier. Ceresole's writings appear to have had a strong influence on Chavez. One of the books that gave the Argentinean sociologist an important standing among pro-Chavez supporters was "The Falsification of Reality," which claimed that the Holocaust is a "myth," and that the 1994 bombings in Buenos Aires against the Israeli Embassy and the AMIA were the products of Jewish infighting.
Thus the slander against the Jews continues to escalate – with the complicity of Venezuela's government.

Can Latin America be saved

Israel's Deputy Foreign Minister, Danny Ayalon, is headed for Latin America on Wednesday to try to convince countries there to vote against the unilateral recognition of 'Palestinian statehood' in the UN General Assembly in September.
Ayalon will travel to Mexico City on Wednesday, for meetings there, followed by a trip to El Salvador where he will attend a meeting of the Organization of American States (OAS). Israel has observer status in the OAS.
"We have realized that we can make a counter campaign," Ayalon said Tuesday. "We must conduct a counter campaign to the Palestinians, even though they have a comparative advantage in the General Assembly. We are not going to give up."
Mexico did not follow Brazil's lead late last year and recognize a Palestinian state, and its position on the matter is considered very influential with a number of Central American states that have not yet recognized a Palestinian state. Among these are El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Panama.
The wave of recognition of a Palestinian state that began with Brazil last year swept South America, with the exception of Colombia, but did not wash over Central America or the Caribbean states, who are also members of the OAS.
Colombia, Israel's closest ally in South America, is currently a member of the UN Security Council, and in various assessments being made in Jerusalem could very well vote with the US against a Palestinian state resolution in the Security Council.
While it is widely expected that the US would veto any such resolution in the Security Council, Washington is keen on not being isolated on the matter and is interested in getting other countries on the council to vote with it – thereby preventing it from having to use its veto.
Ayalon should at least be going to Honduras and Colombia. I'd even consider a trip to Aerrorisrgentina. Even though they have come out in favor of recognizing the 'Palestinian' reichlet, they are also familiar with the scourge of terrorism.
if there is one guy that needs to undo a misdeed it's Ayalon... or so I am told. He was responsible for the withdrawal from Gaza. My friend says this is unforgivable... but I at the time thought it was a good idea myself.  Thousands of Jewish families lost their homes because of Danny's actions.  Let's hope Ayalon gets a chance for redemption

LGBT Pride Month

President Barack Obama has proclaimed June 2011 “Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Pride Month.”

Painting the LGBT experience as the “story about the struggle to realize that all people can live with dignity and fairness under the law,” Obama highlighted the steps his administration has taken for gay rights, including passing the repeal of the “don’t ask, don’t tell” legislation and giving the LGBT community more access to federal housing programs.

Obama made the same proclamation in June 2010, picking up where President Bill Clinton left off in 2000, when he marked the month “Gay and Lesbian Pride Month.”
Media_httpdccdnvirtac_qoxhk
President George W. Bush angered many gay rights activists by saying no to the June celebration, and then-Attorney General John Ashcroft’s Justice Department barred a group of employees from celebrating the month.

June was chosen in honor the 1969 Greenwich Village riots at the Stonewall Inn where gay rights advocates clashed with New York City police over alleged discrimination.

Obama noted his administration’s efforts to prevent bullying, especially of gay people, and to raise awareness of the HIV/AIDS virus within LGBT circles.

The gay community does not, however, have the month to themselves. Obama also proclaimed June “National Caribbean-American Heritage Month,” “African-American Music Appreciation Month” and “Great Outdoors Month.” via dailycaller.com

Chavez Not Responding to US Sanctions

Venezuela will not take immediate action against the United States in response to sanctions on its oil company PDVSA, President Hugo Chavez said late Tuesday after several days of marches against the "imperialist" American measure.
"Our actions will depend on the actions they keep taking," Chavez said in his first appearance since Washington imposed mainly symbolic sanctions a week ago to punish Venezuela for sending shipments of a gasoline additive to Iran.
"We have an infinity of cards up our sleeves but have not played any of them," he said.

PDVSA, once a beacon of what a national oil company should look like, has fallen into disgrace thanks to the "socialist" government of Hugo Chavez.

As reported by various newspapers today, the State Department has sanctioned the state-run Venezuelan oil corporation PDVSA for its dealings with Iran.

According to the US Government, Venezuela violated the Iran Sanctions Act of 1996 when it recently shipped over $50 million worth of refined oil supplies to Iran.

This US Legislative act punishes any US or foreign company that invests over $20 million for developing petroleum resources in Iran. Clearly, the $50 recently invested by PDVSA more than doubles this congressional threshold. You can find the original text of the 1996 Act by clicking HERE.

In Section 3 of the 1996 Act, the Congress has declared that "it is the policy of the United States to deny Iran the ability to support acts of international terrorism and to fund the development and acquisition of weapons of mass destruction and the means to deliver them by limiting the development of Iran's ability to explore for, extract, refine, or transport by pipeline petroleum resources of Iran."

The same section also declares that the sanctions apply when a person or company has made an investment in Iran's oil section of more than $20 million "that directly and significantly contributed to the enhancement of Iran's ability to develop petroleum resources of Iran."

Clearly, PDVSA's proven actions fall within the scope of this legislation. And, as such, the United States Federal Government has the right, if not the legal obligation, to impose the sanctions upon Venezuela. Simple as that.

The three sanctions, however, do not go far enough to deter Venezuela from dealing with Iran. The sanctions are the following:

- Prohibiting PDVSA from gaining US government contracts (just PDVSA, not subsidiaries such as Citgo, so Venezuela can still make profit out of Citgo)

- A ban on Export Import (Exim) Bank financing (not very important, as Exim Bank stopped lending to Venezuela before the PDVSA strike and lockout in 2003)

- A ban on new export licenses for PDVSA, whereas old ones will be respected.

Under current US law (the 1996 Act previously referred to), the State Department could have chosen from the following six sanctions:

- denial of Export-Import Bank of the United States assistance;
- denial of export licenses for exports to the violating company;
- prohibition on loans or credits from U.S. financial institutions of over $10 million in any 12-month period;
- prohibition on designation as a primary dealer for U.S. government debt instruments;
- prohibition on serving as an agent of the United States or as a repository for U.S. government funds;
- denial of U.S. government procurement opportunities (consistent with World Trade Organization obligations); and
- a ban on all or some imports of the violating company.

Clearly, these sanctions are not the harshest ones that the US government could have taken. The most catastrophic one would be banning all imports from PDVSA onto the US, because Venezuela exports over 40% of its oil to the US. And Venezuela's economy is highly dependent on the oil that it exports. So the US was actually just making a point with these sanctions, rather than just wanting to break Venezuela's economy.

Representative Connie Mack said that PDVSA is just one example of many about how the Venezuelan President supports Iran.

Echoing the article published yesterday by Ambassador Roger Noriega, I would like to see the United States and the world investigate the increasingly troubling and close relationship that Iran and Venezuela have. Mr. Noriega said in his article, with which I wholeheartedly agree:

Among the other activities that must be investigated fully and sanctioned urgently are:

—Iran’s mining of uranium and other strategic minerals in Venezuela, Ecuador, Bolivia, and elsewhere.
—Iran’s use of the Venezuelan banking system to circumvent UN sanctions and to project its network into key neighboring countries, such as Brazil.
—Chávez’s material support for a sprawling Hezbollah terrorist network for drug-trafficking, fund-raising, recruitment, training, and operations in the Americas.
—The presence of Iranian military installations, weapons, and other equipment in Venezuelan territory.

Above all, the decision by the administration to sanction PDVSA’s illicit behavior is a tribute to the tenacity of congressional leaders who have demanded action that the administration hold Chávez’s lawless regime accountable. These measures demonstrate the critical role that law enforcement agencies will play in undermining this growing threat.

When proof is found and exposed of all of the above accusations, the "democratic" and "benign" charade of the Venezuelan government will at once fall off.

Not only does the government of Hugo Chavez has known ties to the Colombian FARC guerrilla, it also is increasing its alliance to international terrorists like Hezbollah and the Iranian government. All of this goes against international standards that sanction Iran. Remember that it's not only the US that has held the sanctions, it is also the United Nations through the Security Council, European Union, Canada, Australia, South Korea, Japan, Switzerland, etc.

The world cannot possibly tolerate a government that provides assistance to terrorists, drug traffickers, and governments with nuclear ambitions like Iran. The world cannot afford to have a government in Latin America that helps Iran circumvent international sanctions, favoring its internationally-feared nuclear program.

The State's Department's sanctions, while not going far enough to avoid Venezuelan dealings with Iran, are a starting point for all the investigation that should be taking place. They also are a harsh statement from a world power that show that Hugo Chavez's shenanigans with Iran will not be tolerated.

Citing Ambassador Noriega once more, I want to conclude this lengthy post with the following quote from his article:

"The significance of today’s announcement reaches well beyond the several targeted measures. It represents a powerful message to the financial markets, the banking community, and legitimate businesses in the United States and elsewhere that transactions with PDVSA or the government of Venezuela are very risky business.

Starting today, the Venezuelan people will begin to see the dire consequences of Chávez’s liaisons with bandit regimes, terrorists, and drug traffickers. And, as the depth and breadth of Chávez’s alliance with Iran is exposed, the world will know that the regime in Caracas has become an indispensable co-conspirator with Iran’s terror network and illegal nuclear program."

Nazi Porn

French politician friends on Facebook of antisemitic pornographer Dietlieb Felderer. A reader wrote to draw our attention to the Facebook page of Austrian anti-Semitic, pornographer and Holocaust-denier (a bit difficult to write and to understand) Dietlieb Felderer.  He has around 70 amis, and one of them is French member of the European Parliament Bruno Gollnisch (Front National).  He used to be very close to the party's ex chairman Jean-Marie Le Pen and number two of the party.   Gollnisch is a professor at the University of Lyon III . Interesting to see that these far right folks have some strange friends.

Happy Reunified Jerusalem Day

Today (28 of Iyar), as you know is Jerusalem Day (44). The day, that after much blood and battle, we managed to reclaim and reunite the City of Jerusalem after 19 years of Jordanian rule during which Jews were expelled from Arab-occupied Jerusalem, and Jewish religious sites were desecrated and destroyed.
It has been 44 years since we liberated the occupied half of Jerusalem and turned Jerusalem into a city with freedom of worship for all.
Happy Jerusalem Day.
The Jewish people have lost possession of the the Temple Mount three times since King David purchased the site 30 centuries ago. Only once, was the site given away voluntarily, when Moshe Dayan gave it away 44 years ago. Moshe Dayan will go down in history not as a hero, but as the man who gave away the Temple Mount, providing Barack Obama and the Muslims the opportunity to make Jerusalem an Issue:

.........."It's true," Eldad said, "that the original sin was when the Jewish People, immediately after the Six Day War in 1967, ceded its hold on the Temple Mount in an unholy alliance between the Chief Rabbinate and Moshe Dayan - each side for its own reasons - but now the danger is that the Arab sovereignty on the Temple Mount will spill over to the Western Wall plaza, and from there to other places."

Then-Defense Minister Dayan, just days after Israel's liberation of the Old City, informed the Muslims running the Temple Mount that they could continue to run the mosques there - and later went further by preventing Jewish prayer all over the Mount.

"It was evident that if we did not prevent Jews from praying in what was now a mosque compound," Dayan later wrote, "matters would get out of hand and lead to a religious clash... As an added precaution, I told the chief of staff to order the chief army chaplain to remove the branch office he had established in the building which adjoins the mosque compound."Source Israel National News
