A win-win strategy for Netanyahu

Caroline Glick has a new strategy for Prime Minister Netanyahu.

Obama will not be moved by Israeli concessions. The only way to stop Obama from moving forward on his anti- Israel policy course is to work through Congress. And the most effective way to work through Congress is for Netanyahu to abandon his current course and tell the truth about the nature of the Palestinians, their rejection of Israel, their anti- Americanism and their support for jihadist terror. At the same time, Netanyahu must speak unambiguously about Israel’s national rights to Jerusalem, Judea and Samaria, our required security borders, and about why US national security requires a strong Israel. The stronger the case Netanyahu makes for Israel, the more support Israel will receive from the Congress. And the more support Israel receives from the Congress, the more Obama will be compelled to temper his anti-Israel agenda.

Bonobo society is, not only female-centered but also appears to be female-dominated.

In a primate
where there is no monogamy
the burden of raising children
is on the women. 
What does that tell you
about single mothers?

there are no indications that bonobos form
humanlike nuclear families. 
The burden of raising offspring appears
to rest entirely on the female's shoulders.
In fact, nuclear families are probably incompatible
with the diverse use of sex found in bonobos.
If our ancestors started out with a sex life
similar to that of bonobos,
the evolution of the family
would have required dramatic change.

My own interest in bonobos came not from an inherent
fascination with their charms but from research on
aggressive behavior in primates. I was particularly
intrigued with the aftermath of conflict. After two
chimpanzees have fought, for instance, they may come
together for a hug and mouth-to-mouth kiss. Assuming that
such reunions serve to restore peace and harmony, I labeled
them reconciliations.

Any species that combines close bonds with a potential for
conflict needs such conciliatory mechanisms. Thinking how much faster marriages would break up if people had no way of compensating for hurting each other, I set out to investigate such mechanisms in several primates, including
bonobos. Although I expected to see peacemaking in these apes, too, I was little prepared for the form it would take.

sexual activity is the bonobo's
answer to avoiding conflict.

If a male bonobo tried to harass a female, all females would band together to chase him off. Because females appeared more successful in dominating males when they were together than on their own, their close association and frequent genital rubbing may represent an alliance. Cuba gives Jewish-American aid worker 15-years in jail

US State Department, Conf. of Presidents and AJC condemn ruling on Alan Gross after Cuba accuses him of engaging in "subversive" activities.

Cuba sentenced Jewish-American aid contractor Alan P. Gross to 15 years in prison on Saturday for engaging in "subversive" activities, a decision which was strongly condemned by Washington.

Gross had been arrested by Cuban authorities last year and charged with secretly delivering satellite phones to the Jewish community on the island and entering the country on the wrong visa.

“We deplore this ruling,” Philip J. Crowley, the State Department spokesman was quoted by media as saying. “Alan Gross is a dedicated international development worker who has devoted his life to helping people in more than 50 countries. He was in Cuba to help the Cuban people connect with the rest of the world.” The Obama administration also condemned the ruling. "Today's sentencing adds another injustice to Alan Gross's ordeal," Tommy Vietor, the US National Security Council spokesman said in a statement. "He has already spent too many days in detention and should not spend one more. We urge the immediate release of Mr. Gross so that he can return home to his wife and family." Several Jewish groups including the Conference of Presidents of Major North American Organizations and the American Jewish Committee have petitioned Havana since his arrest calling for his immediate release. "We are disappointed that the prosecution presented Mr. Gross as attempting to destabilize the Cuban government when the project he was working on in Cuba was aimed at helping communication in the local Jewish community. As we mentioned in the appeal we sent to President of Cuba Raul Castro prior to the trial, Mr. Gross has managed multiple humanitarian projects around the world and believed he was advancing his humanitarian work in Cuba, Conference of Presidents Chairman Alan Solow and Executive Vice Chairman Malcolm Hoenlein said last week. Gross, 61, was convicted of "acts against the independence and territorial integrity of the state" for working to set up clandestine Internet networks for Cuba dissidents using "sophisticated" communications technology. Prosecutors sought a 20-year sentence for the longtime development worker, who has been jailed since his arrest in Havana on Dec. 3, 2009. U.S. officials had contended from the beginning that Gross was only setting up Internet access for the island's small Jewish community. Few details of the trial have been released, but the television report said Gross told the court he had been "used and manipulated" by DAI, the Maryland-based company that had contracted him to work in Cuba. DAI had a contract from the US Agency for International Development (USAID) to conduct projects aimed at promoting political change on the Caribbean island. Since Gross was arrested speculation has been rife that he is being used as a bargaining card by Havana in return for several Cuban spies in US custody.

We need 1,000 units for every person murdered

that is how you win a peace. you don't give land... you punish those that murder you!

Interior Minister Eli Yishai on Sunday responded to the government's approval of hundreds of new housing units in the settlements following the terrorist attack in Itamar Saturday, saying: "I would not stop with 400 units, we need at least 1,000 new housing units for each person murdered."
"After this terrible and shocking murder, nothing will comfort the families," Yishai said. "The [Palestinian] Authority is raising a generation of murderers."
