every day I am more disgusted with the state department and Hillary Clinton.

QALQILIYA, West Bank – A mysterious blogger who set off an uproar in the Arab world by claiming he was God and hurling insults at the Prophet Muhammad is now behind bars — caught in a sting that used Facebook to track him down.
The case of the unlikely apostate, a shy barber from this backwater West Bank town, is highlighting the limits of tolerance in the Western-backed Palestinian Authority — and illustrating a new trend by authorities in the Arab world to mine social media for evidence.

Residents of Qalqiliya say they had no idea that Walid Husayin — the 26-year-old son of a Muslim scholar — was leading a double life.

Known as a quiet man who prayed with his family each Friday and spent his evenings working in his father's barbershop, Husayin was secretly posting anti-religion rants on the Internet during his free time.

Now, he faces a potential life prison sentence on heresy charges for "insulting the divine essence." Many in this conservative Muslim town say he should be killed for renouncing Islam, and even family members say he should remain behind bars for life.

"He should be burned to death," said Abdul-Latif Dahoud, a 35-year-old Qalqiliya resident. The execution should take place in public "to be an example to others," he added.

Over several years, Husayin is suspected of posting arguments in favor of atheism on English and Arabic blogs, where he described the God of Islam as having the attributes of a "primitive Bedouin." He called Islam a "blind faith that grows and takes over people's minds where there is irrationality and ignorance."

If that wasn't enough, he is also suspected of creating three Facebook groups in which he sarcastically declared himself God and ordered his followers, among other things, to smoke marijuana in verses that spoof the Muslim holy book, the Quran. At its peak, Husayin's Arabic-language blog had more than 70,000 visitors, overwhelmingly from Arab countries.

His Facebook groups elicited hundreds of angry comments, detailed death threats and the formation of more than a dozen Facebook groups against him, including once called "Fight the blasphemer who said 'I am God.'"

The outburst of anger reflects the feeling in the Muslim world that their faith is under mounting attack by the West. This sensitivity has periodically turned violent, such as the street protests that erupted in 2005 after cartoons mocking the Prophet Muhammad were published in Denmark or after Pope Benedict XVI suggested the Prophet Muhammad was evil the following year. The pope later retracted his comment.

Husayin is the first to be arrested in the West Bank for his religious views, said Tayseer Tamimi, the former chief Islamic judge in the area.

The Western-backed Palestinian Authority is among the more religiously liberal Arab governments in the region. It is dominated by secular elites and has frequently cracked down on hardline Muslims and activists connected to its conservative Islamic rival, Hamas.

Husayin's high public profile and prickly style, however, left authorities no choice but to take action.

Husayin used a fake name on his English and Arabic-language blogs and Facebook pages. After his mother discovered articles on atheism on his computer, she canceled his Internet connection in hopes that he would change his mind.

Instead, he began going to an Internet cafe — a move that turned out to be a costly mistake. The owner, Ahmed Abu-Asal, said the blogger aroused suspicion by spending up to seven hours a day in a corner booth. After several months, a cafe worker supplied captured snapshots of his Facebook pages to Palestinian intelligence officials.

Officials monitored him for several weeks and then arrested him on Oct. 31 as he sat in the cafe, said Abu-Asal.

Husayin's family has been devastated by the arrest. On a recent day, his father stood sadly in the family barber shop, cluttered with colorful towels and posters of men in outdated haircuts. He requested that a reporter not write about his son to avoid being publicly shamed.

Two cousins attributed the writings to depression, saying Husayin was desperate to find better work. Requesting anonymity because of the shame the incident, they said Husayin's mother wants him to remain in prison for life — both to restore the family's honor and to protect him from vigilantes.

The case is the second high-profile arrest connected in the West Bank connected to Facebook activity. In late September, a reporter for a news station sympathetic to Hamas was arrested and detained for more than a month after he was tagged in a Facebook image that insulted the Palestinian president.

Gaza's Hamas rulers also stalk Facebook pages of suspected dissenters, said Palestinian rights activist Mustafa Ibrahim. He said Internet cafe owners are forced to monitor customers' online activity, and alert intelligence officials if they see anything critical of the militant group or that violates Hamas' stern interpretation of Islam.

Both governments also create fake Facebook profiles to befriend and monitor known dissidents, activists said. In September, a young Gaza man was detained after publishing an article critical of Hamas on his Facebook feed.

Such "stalking" on Facebook and other social media sites has become increasingly common in the Arab world. In Lebanon, four people were arrested over the summer and accused of slandering President Michel Suleiman on Facebook. All have been released on bail.

In neighboring Syria, Facebook is blocked altogether. And in Egypt, a blogger was charged with atheism in 2007 after intelligence officials monitored his posts.

Husayin has not been charged but remains in detention, said Palestinian security spokesman Adnan Damiri.

He could face a life sentence if he's found guilty, depending on how harshly the judge thinks he attacked Islam and how widely his views were broadcast, said Islamic scholar Tamimi.

Even so, a small minority has questioned whether the government went too far.

Zainab Rashid, a liberal Palestinian commentator, wrote in an online opinion piece that Husayin has made an important point: "that criticizing religious texts for their (intellectual) weakness can only be combatted by ... oppression, prison and execution."

Elizabeth Kennedy in Beirut and Jason Keyser in Cairo contributed to this report.

The old queen Arafat didn't like women much. You must show respect when talking to Chairman Arafat! Do you think Amanpour learned a thing? probably not... but she knows how to embarrass the hell out of both sides by controlling the argument. Now she defends a religion that believes Allah tells Muslims to kill Jews if they don't pay a tax.

...and Jimmy Carter blames the media for Obama's failure? YOU MUST SHOW RESPECT TO CHAIRMAN ARAFAT!

Thousands of artifacts from former PLO terrorist leader Yasser Arafat's life are being gathered for a new $3.4 million museum in Ramallah. The facility, set to open within the year, is being built on to the Muqata – the compound where the PLO chairman spent the last two years of his life.

That section of the building, which now serves as the headquarters for his successor, PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas, has been sealed since Arafat's death on November 11, 2004.

The museum is being built by the Yasser Arafat Foundation, inaugurated in Cairo in February 2008 by a group that included PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas, Arab League Secretary-General Amr Moussa and Arafat's nephew, Nasser al-Qidwa, who became chairman of the board.

Some $5 million was already in the foundation's coffers by the time the organization was officially launched. However, the source of the funding is not clear, and no information is publicly available.

French President Nicolas Sarkozy is reported to have personally lodged an extremely violent telephone protest with Iranian authorities in which he said he was considering her fate as being a matter he was taking personally before warning that if Iran “touched one hair of her head” he would see to it that all talks on all issues with Iran would be instantly halted. via digitaljournal.com

Hard-line Islamist nations Iran and Saudi Arabia are hoping to join the board of U.N. Women when the votes are counted on Wednesday – the United Nations' new agency for women, established in July after years of effort by women's groups.
. One woman who found the thought revolting was Iranian 2003 Nobel laureate, activist Shirin Ebadi. “How can a country that has not ratified the Convention on the Elimination of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) … be a member of that board and speak about women's rights?” she demanded Tuesday at a U.N. news conference. Speaking through a Persian translator, Ebadi added, “I think that this board – with the members that we can see – will not get anywhere.” The two Middle Eastern Arab nations are among the 50 countries who stood as candidates to the 41-member executive board of the agency, with Iran having led the race for the top spot. Ten spots on the board are reserved for Asian nations – and only 10 Asian countries were in the running for those spots, including Iran. But at the 11th hour, an 11th candidate was found, throwing a monkey wrench into Iran's well-oiled diplomatic machinery. The United States, Canada and Australia had been working behind the scenes to recruit rivals to keep the Islamic Republic off the 41-member board. Timor-Leste – the official name for East Timor – suddenly joined the race, bringing the number of Asian candidates to 11 and making it theoretically possible to leave Iran out. Australia in particular enjoys an exceptionally close relationship with the small Asian nation. Women in Saudi Arabia make up less than 10 percent of the work force in that country, are forbidden to drive, and must receive permission from a male guardian to travel, work, study and marry. Generally, a woman who goes out in public must be accompanied by a male – even a minor – in order to avoid being harassed or viewed with disdain. Iran recently decided to delay the execution of a woman by stoning due to a flood of worldwide condemnation that created major pressure on the Tehran government. Nevertheless, it is unclear when or if Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani, convicted of adultery, will again be forced to face her tormentors, who spent four years in prison. The 43-year-old widow and mother of two's original sentence to death by stoning was reportedly suspended. However, the government alleged that she murdered her husband as well – a charge that didn't stick – and said she could be executed by hanging for the crime. In addition to being tortured repeatedly, she also received 99 lashes twice – once, before the eyes of her 17-year-old son.

Soros invests in Petrobras; Immediately Obama Loans Petrobras $10,000,000,000 !!! - President Obama Finances Offshore Drilling in Brazil

Labels: » » » » » » »

You read that headline correctly. Unfortunately, the Obama Administration is financing oil exploration off Brazil.

The U.S. is going to lend billions of dollars to Brazil's state-owned oil company, Petrobras, to finance exploration of the huge offshore discovery in Brazil's Tupi oil field in the Santos Basin near Rio de Janeiro. Brazil's planning minister confirmed that White House National Security Adviser James Jones met this month with Brazilian officials to talk about the loan.

The U.S. Export-Import Bank tells us it has issued a "preliminary commitment" letter to Petrobras in the amount of $2 billion and has discussed with Brazil the possibility of increasing that amount. Ex-Im Bank says it has not decided whether the money will come in the form of a direct loan or loan guarantees. Either way, this corporate foreign aid may strike some readers as odd, given that the U.S. Treasury seems desperate for cash and Petrobras is one of the largest corporations in the Americas.

But look on the bright side. If President Obama has embraced offshore drilling in Brazil, why not in the old U.S.A.? The land of the sorta free and the home of the heavily indebted has enormous offshore oil deposits, and last year ahead of the November elections, with gasoline at $4 a gallon, Congress let a ban on offshore drilling expire.

The Bush Administration's five-year plan (2007-2012) to open the outer continental shelf to oil exploration included new lease sales in the Gulf of Mexico. But in 2007 environmentalists went to court to block drilling in Alaska and in April a federal court ruled in their favor. In May, Interior Secretary Ken Salazar said his department was unsure whether that ruling applied only to Alaska or all offshore drilling. So it asked an appeals court for clarification. Late last month the court said the earlier decision applied only to Alaska, opening the way for the sale of leases in the Gulf. Mr. Salazar now says the sales will go forward on August 19.

This is progress, however slow. But it still doesn't allow the U.S. to explore in Alaska or along the East and West Coasts, which could be our equivalent of the Tupi oil fields, which are set to make Brazil a leading oil exporter. Americans are right to wonder why Mr. Obama is underwriting in Brazil what he won't allow at home.
...and the irony is that Brazil is allied with Iran and Turkey. So we are investing to help an enemies economy and not investing in our own? one might think that Obama wasn't on America's side. I hope the interest to the loan to Brazil is tied to the number of Israelis that die because of Obama's policy of helping our enemies.

ADL attacks Glenn Beck and I couldn't care less

Labels: » »
if there ever was Taqiyya... the ADL is under the influence:  and it isn't like I'm a fan of Beck either.
New York, NY - The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) today criticized as “completely inappropriate and offensive” remarks by Glenn Beck on his radio and television programs, in which he inaccurately connected George Soros, who was then a young boy, to the actions of others in sending Jews to death camps during the Holocaust.

On his November 10 radio show, Beck described how Soros, who was born in Hungary to Orthodox Jewish parents, “used to go around with this anti-Semite and deliver papers to the Jews and confiscate their property and then ship them off.  And George Soros was part of it.  He would help confiscate the stuff.  It was frightening.  Here’s a Jewish boy helping send the Jews to the death camps.”

Abraham H. Foxman, ADL National Director and a Holocaust survivor, issued the following statement:

Glenn Beck’s description of George Soros’ actions during the Holocaust is completely inappropriate, offensive and over the top.  For a political commentator or entertainer to have the audacity to say – inaccurately – that there’s a Jewish boy sending Jews to death camps, as part of a broader assault on Mr. Soros, that’s horrific.

While I, too, may disagree with many of Soros’ views and analysis on the issues, to bring in this kind of innuendo about his past is unacceptable.  To hold a young boy responsible for what was going on around him during the Holocaust as part of a larger effort to denigrate the man is repugnant.

The Holocaust was a horrific time, and many people had to make excruciating choices to ensure their survival.  George Soros has been forthright about his childhood experiences and his family’s history, and there the matter should rest.

Kuwait could buy GM stake

Now Muslim nations get to reap the rewards. Apparently, GM approached Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, and Abu Dhabi about investing in the initial public offering.   The Saudi company which may take part is owned and run by the anti-Semitic, homicide-bomber-telethon donor (and FOX News owner) Prince Al-Waleed Bin Talal.  Nauseating:
    • GM on Wednesday disclosed estimated terms for its planned IPO, in which some $15 billion (Dh55.05 billion) of stock could be sold and the US government would reduce its stake to below 50 per cent.

Kuwait City: The Kuwait Investment Authority, Kuwait's sovereign wealth fund, may participate in General Motors Co's planned initial public offering if it is feasible for the fund, its managing director said Saturday.
"Last week, they announced the price range, which is the valuation range," Bader Al Saad told reporters in Kuwait City.
"We have to review if it is feasible for us. If it is feasible for us we will look into it. If it is something cheap, we are interested of course," Al Saad said.
GM on Wednesday disclosed estimated terms for its planned IPO, in which some $15 billion (Dh55.05 billion) of stock could be sold and the US government would reduce its stake to below 50 per cent.
Current owners of the company, including the US Treasury Department, plan to offer at least 365 million shares at a projected $26 to $29 each, according to a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission. The final price, which should be set around on next Wednesday, could be higher or lower than this range, depending on market demand.
    High cycle
In addition to the common stock being sold by the current owners, GM plans to sell 60 million shares of preferred stock for an estimated $50 each.
General Motors is currently approaching several sovereign wealth funds in the Middle East for its planned IPO of the "new GM" this month, Gulf News has learnt from people who are involved in the talks. Among them are Saudi Arabia's Kingdom Holding, Abu Dhabi's Mubadala as well as Qatar Holding.
Besides that, GM is also talking to Singapore's Tem-asek Holdings, the investment arm of the Singapore government. There are also talks that GM's Chinese partner Shanghai Automotive Industry Corp might buy a larger stake.
GM's Chief Financial Officer Chris Liddell, pitching investors on its initial public offering, said on Thursday earnings before interest and taxes may rise to as much as $19 billion in what it called a "high cycle" for the global automobile industry.
GM, planning to raise as much as $10.6 billion in the IPO, has reduced its hourly labour costs and will be able to produce as much as $16 billion in free cash flow with profit margins as wide as 10 per cent, Chief Financial Officer Chris Liddell said.
The old General Motors Corp was restructured in a US-backed bankruptcy last year, allowing the Detroit-based automaker to earn as much as $4.2 billion through three quarters this year.
"This will give us the type of fortress balance sheet that we believe is appropriate for a company in a high fixed-cost, cyclical industry," Liddell said.

MK Katz: If Netanyahu Declares a New Freeze We’ll Overthrow Him

Who's responsible?

Aviva Shalit, the mother of kidnapped IDF corporal Gilad Shalit, has sent a letter to Prime Minister Netanyahu.
Aviva Shalit, the mother of kidnapped soldier Gilad Shalit, sent a letter to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu marking 1,600 days since her son fell in Hamas captivity, and wrote: "I don't know what else to say for you to wake up.
"Gilad is alive in Gaza. I don't know if he will be alive tomorrow. You and only you are responsible for his life. Please don’t share this responsibility with cabinets and generals, only to brush it off your own hands," the letter read.
I would say that Ismael Hanieyh and Hamas bear a lot more responsibility than Netanyahu does. They kidnapped Gilad Shalit, they are holding him, and apparently there is no reasonable price for which they will release him.

Netanyahu misreads Kissinger

Labels: » » »

Bibi asked Dr.Kissinger for an advice on making breakthrough in Israeli-Palestinian peace talks.
But what exactly is Kissinger’s experience? About the only thing that he actually did was forcing Rabin to conclude disengagement in Sinai. Despite IDF’s utter opposition, Kissinger convinced Rabin to withdraw Israeli forces to Mitla and Gidi passes. That extremely dangerous move opened Sinai for quick invasion by the Egyptians, but also allowed a period of highly efficient ceasefire with huge buffer zone and no confrontations. That border quiet eventually built sufficient trust between Begin and Sadat to sign the peace treaty.
Kissinger’s situation was completely different: Rabin was extremely eager to achieve peace with Egypt, a real and strong enemy. No similar desire exists for peace with weak Palestinians. Rabin was giving away a buffer zone hundreds of miles from Israeli population centers; Netanyahu will be ceding the historical Jewish land a few miles from our major cities.
If there is one lesson Netanyahu should take from Kissinger, it is this: asked what final borders he envisages for Israel in return for non-belligerence with Arabs, Kissinger replied that he only hopes he won’t be around at that time.

Canada will stand with Israel, Harper says

Labels:

TORONTO (JTA) -- Canada will remain a steadfast supporter of Israel even if it means losing stature internationally, Prime Minister Stephen Harper said.
Addressing a three-day conference in Ottawa on battling global anti-Semitism, Harper said Monday that "when Israel, the only country in the world whose very existence is under attack, is consistently and conspicuously singled out for condemnation, I believe we are morally obligated to take a stand."
In what was described as an embarrassing blow to Harper and his Conservatives, Canada recently lost a bid for a seat on the United Nations Security Council -- a defeat attributed in part to Ottawa's staunch backing of Israel.
Harper told parliamentarians and experts attending the conference that he has "the bruises to show for it, that whether it is at the United Nations or any other international forum, the easiest thing to do is simply to just get along and go along with this anti-Israeli rhetoric, to pretend it is just about being even-handed and to excuse oneself with the label of 'honest broker.'
"But as long as I am prime minister, whether it is at the U.N. or the Francophonie or anywhere else, Canada will take that stand, whatever the cost. Not just because it is the right thing to do  but because history shows us, and the ideology of the anti-Israeli mob tells us all too well, that those who threaten the existence of the Jewish people are a threat to all of us."
Parliamentarians and experts from more than 40 countries are in Ottawa until Tuesday for the gathering, a follow-up to the inaugural conference of the Interparliamentary Coalition for Combating Anti-Semitism held last year in London.
In his address to the conference, Harper described a new kind of anti-Semitism that "targets the Jewish people by targeting the Jewish homeland, Israel, as the source of injustice and conflict in the world and uses, perversely, the language of human rights to do so."
"We must be relentless in exposing this new anti-Semitism for what it is," the Canadian leader said.
