Horsed around in Koran class: Andrew Higgins writes in the Washington Post about Santo Fransiskus Asisi at "Catholic school in Indonesia seeks recognition for its role in Obama's life." It includes these details:
An old school registry at Asisi records how, under the name "Barry Soetoro," he entered first grade at the start of the school year on Jan. 1, 1968. He was registered as a Muslim, based on his stepfather's faith. ... While at Besuki, Obama received instruction in Islam. But, recalled Rully Dasaad, a former classmate, Obama horsed around in class and, during readings of the Koran, got "laughed at because of his funny pronunciation."

Attended Muslim classes and prayers: Obama's former grade three teacher at Menteng One in Jakarta says he studied the Koran and prayed with Muslims despite the objections of his mother, Ann Dunham, a Catholic, reports Anne Barrowclough for the The Times (London):
The teacher, Effendi, who taught at Menteng One for 29 years, remembers Mr Obama as a "fat, curly-haired, curious boy". The school had an international mix of pupils, including Christians, Hindus, Buddhists and Muslims. Mr Obama attended classes on Islam while the Christians attended classes on Christianity, said Effendi. Barry, he said, was alone among the pupils in that he insisted on attending both.
"His mother did not like him learning Islam, although his father was a Muslim. Sometimes she came to the school; she was angry with the religious teacher and said 'Why did you teach him the Koran?'" said Effendi. "But he kept going to the classes because he was interested in Islam. He would also join the other pupils for Muslim prayers."

Hot Dogs and Beans

And of course a lot of spending. Spending money that comes from jobs that don't exist, in the hope that when the jobs do exist, the people with those jobs will be able to pay back China. And if they can't, we can always borrow more to subsidize more social benefits for them. And that economic plan is a formula for the "the hot dog and beans" lifestyle.
..."the only winner in the money throwing contest between Obama and the EU is China, and even that depends on the US repairing its economy, instead of going under, and taking much of China's own imaginary wealth and fortunes with it. The good news is that compared to the global catastrophe being trotted out for us, the worst deeds of Wall Street, and even a Bernie Madoff look like shoeshine boys pinching nickels. They may have bankrupted banks, but our leaders will bankrupt entire countries. We got the government into the banking business to protect us from Wall Street speculators, but who is going to protect us from Washington D.C. speculators, who think that once you go past 12 figures, you're dealing with strictly imaginary numbers."

we should of let the whole thing fail... the banks. all of it. we might of suffered, but this going to make the suffering worse... and if we don't suffer then the 3rd world will suffer for us. someone is going to pay the bill.

Israeli NBA Player's Mural Defaced Again

Labels:

Earlier this month with discussed the story of the defacing of the mural dedicated to Omri Casspi, the NBA's first Israeli-born Israeli player. Apparently, this past week it happened again.
Sacramento police are hoping any possible witnesses will come forward after a mural of Sacramento Kings player Omri Casspi was defaced with a swastika for the second time in a little more than a week.

Police say after a swastika was found painted on the mural of Casspi on Sept. 8, the mural was found defaced again Thursday morning.

Casspi, who is Jewish, is the only NBA player born in Israel.

The most recent incident comes after a $1,000 reward was offered by the Anti-Defamation League for information leading to an arrest after the mural was defaced the first time.

Joe Maloof, co-owner of the Sacramento Kings, released a statement Thursday describing the vandalism as "sickening acts of intolerance."

Maloof says the team is matching the reward offered by the Anti-Defamation League.

At this point I think Omri should be concerned with his safety in Sacramento.

Will he ask to be traded to another team, and if so, should he be granted his wish?
...as bad as I feel for Casspi... this is a very good thing. America needs the Antisemitism clarified. People seem to think this isn't going on.

Soros’s Anti-Human-Rights Agenda - Anne Bayefsky

Labels: » » » » » »

Why, then, did George Soros deem it worthy of the largest gift he has ever made?
Because Soros has recognized what Republicans ignore at their peril — namely, the power of human-rights claims, legitimate or not.
Soros, logged as one of President Obama’s frequent White House guests, appreciates that a human-rights mantra, particularly when amplified with the U.N.’s global megaphone, is a formidable tool for manipulating public policy. A tool, mind you, and not a principle.
noahdavidsimon's posterous

...Soros’s acquisition of Human Rights Watch, coupled with his legendary support of the Democratic party and the United Nations, creates the perfect storm. He has brought together the unelected, unaccountable NGO claiming to represent “civil society,” the Democratic party and its sitting president, and the world’s chief global organization, each supportive of the others in a plethora of financial and personal interrelationships, and all sharing common goals: diminishing American power and mothballing the idea of unadulterated universal values.

Egypt reiterates: Galloway banned from Egyptian soil

Labels: » »
In light of the "Viva Palestina 5" convoy that is heading towards Egypt, Hossam Zaki of the Egyptian Foreign Affairs ministry has emphasized that George Galloway is banned from entering Egypt under any circumstances.
He also said that Egypt does not allow land convoys to enter Gaza and restricts the number of people who can enter at one time. He stated that the goods must be unloaded at El Arish where the Egyptian Red Crescent takes over all issues of distribution of the goods.
The Viva Palestina people are not commenting on any of this in their webpage.

Star of David nanoparticles discovered. Time for a boycott!

New Cover of Time Magazine.... why nanoparticles don't want peace!

A new type of nanoparticle that resembles the six-pointed Star of David, a Jewish symbol which appears on the flag of Israel, has been discovered by researchers at The Hebrew University of Jerusalem.
The Hebrew University team, headed by researcher Uri Banin, said the star-shaped nanoparticles have a unique, cage-like structure. The discovery is described in an article in the October 2010 issue of the journal Nature Materials.
The particles, which are some 10,000 times smaller than the width of a human hair, may prove useful in applications ranging from the development of new ways to sense glucose in diagnosing diabetes to serving as photo-catalysts for turning solar energy into clean fuel, the university said.
“Exploration into the possible applications for the nano Stars of David has just begun, and already they have shown that they are not just beautiful; the composition and the unique cage shape makes them useful,” the university said in an e-mailed statement.
Here are those Israelis again, creating six-pointed nanoparticles just to humiliate Palestinian Arabs. Blue ones, no less! (The color is of course not real but chosen to make it easier to see.)

New York State Begins to Hurt Dems

Richard Baehr
Good news for the GOP in the first post-primary poll in the New York governorship: Andrew Cuomo's lead over Republican Carl Paladino is only 54% to 38%.  This may not sound all that encouraging, and  Cuomo is still very likely to be elected the next Governor of New York.  But in pre- primary polls, before a GOP candidate was named, Cuomo ran 30-40 points ahead of all of  his potential opponents.

Since New York voters know pretty much everything about Cuomo and Paladino is a virtual unknown, Paladino has room to grow his numbers (or of course shrink them, if he proves a disastrous candidate).

The significance of a close  race at the top of the ticket, even if Cuomo wins, is that it will help the GOP in many of the close  House races in New York State in which the GOP has a chance to take back seat lost since 2004.  After the 2004 election, the GOP held 10 of New York's 29 House seats. Now they hold but two. Seven of the seats that were lost  in the last six years are now regarded as tossups or slightly leaning to the Democrat  this cycle, including: NY 1, NY 13, NY 19, NY 20, NY 23, NY 24, and NY 25, and the GOP is considered to be  ahead  in the open seat race in New York 29.

There have not been any post-primary polls taken yet for the U.S. Senate race between appointed Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, who has never run statewide before,  and GOP nominee Joe DioGuardi. Gillibrand led DioGuardi by 20 points in pre-primary polls, but this lead may be cut in half now that the GOP has a nominee, rather than a potential opponent for Gillibrand.

While the GOP remains a long-shot to win the governor's race or either of the two Senate races in New York this year (Chuck Schumer is also running for a full term, Gillibrand to complete Hillary Clinton's term),  if the Cuomo and Gillibrand races are close enough, it forces the Democrats to spend money in an expensive state for media buys,  that could have been better used in much closer Senate  races like Wisconsin,  Nevada , Washington State, Illinois and Colorado, or close Governors races in Georgia, Florida, Wisconsin, Minnesota and Texas.  And if the GOP is to take over control of the House,  picking up a bunch of seats in New York has to be part of the package. Having reasonably competitive races for Governor and the Gillibrand seat  is a big plus for the GOP in New York and other states as well.
let's just say that things are going well enough that New York is seriously thinking about it's values. a good sign, but we are still in hell.

Iran and Syria to back Hezbullah coup in Lebanon?

Labels: » » »
Lebanese Maj. Gen. Jamil Sayyed calls for death sentence against Lebanese prosecutors

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's brief stopover in Damascus Saturday, Sept. 18, on his way to New York, was long enough for him and Syrian President Bashar Assad to finalize their plans to back Hizballah's threatened coup against the Hariri government in Beirut, debkafile's military and Mid East sources report.  Hizballah called a general mobilization that same day and by Sunday had 5,000 armed men deployed in Beirut, ready to make good on its threat to seize power rather than let its leaders be indicted by the Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL) for the Hariri murder.
Hizballah went into action after learning that the indictments were on the way. Ahmadinejad and Assad were of one mind that they must not be delivered - even it meant helping their Lebanese Shiite surrogate to overthrow the Lebanese government. They discussed possible Israeli intervention to save Beirut from Hizballah domination and decided that the Jewish state Israel would not take this risk,  any more than the Lebanese army would fight to defend the government.
Our Lebanese sources disclose that France's UN ambassador Gerard Araud passed word to his Lebanese contacts that Daniel Bellemare, the STL's chief prosecutor's decision to file charges against Hizballah was final.
Sunday night, Lebanon's ruling March 14 party held an emergency meeting to discuss what to do about "the persistent coup against the state and its institutions, especially by Hizballah's security and military…"

Special attention was drawn to Hizballah's takeover at the points of their guns of Beirut's international airport to guarantee the safety of the Lebanese Maj. Gen. Jamil Sayyed, against arrest on his arrival. A warrant was issued after he demanded that members of Lebanon's general prosecution be put to death. He accused them of joining in a conspiracy of the international tribunal and prime minister to implicate him in the 2005 assassination of former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafiq Hariri in order to lay the blame for the crime at Hizballah's door.
Sayyed was one of the four Lebanese generals detained for four years for alleged complicity in the crime and recently freed. He claimed consistently that neither Syria nor Hizballlah had been involved.

Hizballah gunmen were posted to shield him from being arrested. As one Hizballah source put it: "The party will cut off the unjust hands that would attack Maj. Gen. Sayyed" - a crude threat to Lebanon's forces of law and order as a step on the way to a coup to overthrow the government and seize power.
of course it would be a horrible idea for the IDF to back Lebanon. Israel has nothing to gain from it and it is doubtful that the U.N. will do anything.

The reality of violent religious extremism in our time « and why so called moderates are what define it

Labels: »
Naif Al-Mutawa wrote an essay for the Philadelphia Inquirer last year which is typical of such politically correct thinking.  The central point, in his essay, “The Many Shapes of Extremism”, was this:
“My intent was to advance the notion that extremism is nothing more than a bunch of neurotransmitters working overtime – or perhaps under time. It is not Islam or Judaism or Hinduism that creates extremism; rather, some people are predisposed to extremism and will pursue it in any faith.”
(Here’s a link to Al-Mutawa’s essay published elsewhere)
Al-Mutawa may be correct to some extent. I’m sure certain individuals are indeed naturally (even, perhaps, biologically) more predisposed to extremism than others, just like some people are more predisposed to abusing drugs or alcohol. But, as with alcohol abuse, we wouldn’t deny an element of choice involved in the behavior would we? Further, if certain cultures have a higher degree of alcoholism than other cultures it would be reasonable to ask why…what are the cultural and ethical norms that may contribute to this disparity. Naif Al-Mutawa refuses to acknowledge or address the fact that (while, again, the overwhelming majority of Muslims are not extremists), violent extremist acts are, when motivated by religion, dramatically more likely to be carried out by Muslims than by non-Muslims (Christians, Jews, Buddhists, Hindus, etc.)
The point isn’t to prejudge or, in any way, demonize Muslims.  Rather, the point is that, as extremism in our day is to a large degree a radical Islamic phenomena, it is incumbant for the Muslim community to acknowledge this problem, figure out the religious/cultural factors influencing such aberrant behavior, and stop insisting (contrary to all the evidence) that other religions are also plagued with the same degree of extremism.  Ultimately, the moderate forces in their community must do ideological battle with the extremists in their midst – to win hearts and minds for a future Islam not compromised such extremism.
Here is my reply to Al-Mutawa, published by The Inquirer in their letter to the editor section:
Naif Al-Mutawa’s op-ed (“The many shapes of extremism,” April 8) advances the erroneous notion that extremism is equally distributed among the three major faiths. While it is important to stress that the overwhelming majority of Muslims are not terrorists, the overwhelming majority of terrorist acts – according to data published online by the National Counter-Terrorism Center – committed by those inspired by religion are indeed (Sunni) Muslim. While I understand that many well-meaning Americans would cringe at the suggestion that terrorists are far more likely to be Muslim than Jew, or Christian, the problem with extremism in our time is the radical, violent manifestations of specific faith traditions. Empirical data should never take a back seat to feel-good assumptions and platitudes. At stake isn’t merely the intrinsic value of truth and accuracy but, more specifically, the broader truism that we can’t rally the civilized world to win a war – militarily or morally – against an enemy that we’re not allowed to name.

Chart from the National Counter Terrorism Center (2009 Report on Terrorism)
As Herbert London of the Hudson Institute aptly pointed out in a recent post:
“People who know nothing about Islam agree that most Muslims do not commit violent or terrorist acts, therefore the religion is peaceful; but that is a classic non sequitur. Most Germans in the 1930′s did not embrace the excesses of Nazism. Most Chinese did not subscribe to the slaughter of millions during Mao’s Long March. Most Russians did not support Stalin’s purges.
“It usually takes a minority to start a revolution or “killing fields.” The key feature of radicalization in any religion or political movement is the silence, or presumptive acquiesce, of the majority, who is mainly moderate.
“The fact is that fanatics influence history more than moderates…
“The group that counts, the group that launches historical trends, is the extremist one that threatens everything we hold dear. To deny this is to deny a reality that allows fanatics to control our very existence.”
“It is, naturally, difficult to come to grips with this condition. The comforting notion that most Muslims are “just like us” will not fly when one considers who are those moving historical forces. What this adds up to may be difficult to contemplate, but it is better to confront that reality now than at a time when it is too late to resist.”
There is no Moderate Islam if it can not counter so called Radical Islam.

Egypt arrests Hamas intelligence agent with knowledge of where Gilad Shalit is

Labels: » » »

Cairo, 20 Sept. (AKI) - A top Hamas intelligence agent has been arrested in Egypt on suspicion of participating in activities designed to compromise national security, Arabic newspaper al-Ahran reported on Monday, citing a security source.
Mohammed Dababish was accused of taking part in the killing of a border guard along the Gaza Strip, among other crimes, according to the daily, which said he was apprehended last week while returning from a trip to Syria.
Dababish is part of an unit that oversees intelligence inside of Gaza.
Dababish is believed to have been involved in a failed attempt to smuggle sophisticated radio equipment into Gaza which is embargoed by Egypt and Israel, according to the source.
Egypt has arrested a number of Hamas officials since one of its soldiers was killed in a border shooting early this year. Egypt believes Hamas was involved in the shooting.
Now if Egypt wants information on the location of Gilad Shalit then all they need to do is twist this guy's nipples.

Karl Vick of Time Magazine: I wasn’t aware

Labels: » » » »
Time Magazine's Jerusalem bureau chief Karl Vick, who wrote the infamous cover story that claimed that Israelis are only concerned about money and don't care about peace or the 'poor Palestinians,' went on a tour of Samaria this week, accompanied by Yesha Council chief Naftali Bennett.

"Vick could not help but notice the vast open and untouched spaces between all the communities in the Shomron, Jewish and Arab, and how the Israeli presence does not encroach on Arab villages or agriculture", said Bennett. "It is obvious that there is enough room for all of us and for Jewish expansion." "I wasn’t aware of all this”, Vick commented, explaining that he did not write the headline for his article and that editing had made the article seem more critical than he meant it to be. He is considering a sequel to it.

what kind of journalist uses the excuse that he wasn't aware? aren't we supposed to be paying him to actually be aware and report honestly? Did Time Magazine not even bother to document any of their accusations over the years?

Gaza's Water Park torched

Labels: » »
how do you torch a water park? Isn't it mostly water?
That symbol of Gaza poverty, the Crazy Water Park, was torched by unknown arsonists last night, causing severe damage. One report says that there were some 40 attackers.
The water park had been closed twice in the past month for violating Islamic norms.
An article in Palestine Press Agency seems to be saying that investment projects in Gaza that are headed by Hamas members and their friends are doing very well; while the others have been victimized by arsons like this one as well as being closed for perceived violations of various laws.
what lovely people!

Eye for Eye and Spine for Spine In Saudi Arabia

Labels: » » » » » »
(Illustrate Pain) : Great Moments In Sharia Law: Punish Man By Damaging His Spine. In Saudi Arabia, they take the idea of "an eye for an eye" very seriously: A Saudi judge has asked several hospitals in the country whether they could damage a man's spinal cord as punishment after he was convicted of attacking another man with a cleaver and paralyzing him, the brother of the victim said Thursday. Abdul-Aziz al-Mutairi, 22, was left paralyzed and subsequently lost a foot after a fight more than two years ago. He asked a judge in northwestern Tabuk province to impose an equivalent punishment on his attacker under Islamic law, his brother Khaled al-Mutairi told The Associated Press by telephone from there. To their credit, one of the hospitals refused outright to perform such an operation. The other hospital said that such an operation was possible, but would have to be done at a more specialized facility. That, however, is apparently not going to stop the family of the paralyzed man, who are willing to have the man sent outside of the country in order to have the operation done. This is not the first time this law has been followed in the 21st century: 2 years ago, Iran allowed something similar: A man who blinded a woman in an acid attack after she spurned his marriage proposals has been sentenced to the same punishment, in a literal application of Iran's sharia eye-for-an-eye laws. In a highly unusual judgment, Tehran province criminal court ordered Majid Movahedi, 27, to be blinded in both eyes from drops of acid in response to a plea from his victim, Ameneh Bahrami. The punishment is legal under the sharia code of qisas, which allows retribution for violent crimes. The court also ordered Movahedi to pay compensation to the victim. Also in Saudi Arabia, in 2005 a man had his teeth pulled out by a dentist because he had smashed another man's teeth in a fight. Not surprisingly, trials in Saudi Arabia do not rank high when compared to the international standards: Human rights group say trials in Saudi Arabia fall far below international standards. They usually take place behind closed doors and without adequate legal representation. Those who are sentenced to death are often not informed of the progress of legal proceedings against them or of the date of execution until the morning on which they are taken out and beheaded. Crucifying the headless body in a public place is a way to set an example, according to the kingdom's strict interpretation of Islam. This from countries that lecture the West on international.  Ouch
