As the number of Facebook members signed up for the “Boycott Target Until They Cease Funding Anti-Gay Politics” page neared 78,000 in recent days, Facebook personnel locked down portions of the page — banning new discussion threads, preventing members from posting videos and standard Web links to other sites and barring the page’s administrator from sending updates to those who signed up for the boycott. “It slices the vocal cords,” complained Jeffrey Henson, who ran the Facebook page, calling for a boycott of Target over its $150,000 donation to a group supporting a candidate some view as hostile to the gay community, Minnesota gubernatorial candidate Tom Emmer. “The page is now outraged” over the website’s action, Henson added. Participants in the boycotts complain Facebook’s actions have created an uneven playing field in which ad hoc citizens’ groups face hurdles to online organizing — obstacles that corporations using social media have little trouble surmounting. “Facebook is interfering with the function of a page dedicated to individuals organizing in response to corporate action to which they object,” said Nicholas Lefevre, a promoter of the Target boycott. “With the limited avenues for such expression and organization and the importance of the Internet to that ability, anything that threatens that expression is dangerous.” Another Facebook page “liked” by even more people — a boycott of petroleum giant BP that attracted more than 847,000 fans — was also hit by a similar clampdown last week. Those who use the BP page to communicate about the gulf spill reacted angrily. “It all smells fishier than the gulf to me,” said one comment on the page from a member called “Triple Bottomline.” Organizers of the Target and BP boycotts quickly started new pages, but their followers have been slow to locate and join the new pages. By Friday, only 1,450 members had signed up for the new page from BP boycott organizer Lee Perkins and 2,507 had signed up for a new Target boycott page. In response to a query from POLITICO, Facebook said the earlier pages were restricted because they ran afoul of the social media site’s terms of service, limiting so-called pages to individuals and entities that have some real structure in the bricks-and-mortar world.
We said that facebook's policy of allowing hate speech was hypocrisy to begin with... but criticism of their paycheck is the kind of hate that facebook doesn't tolerate. The government needs to get involved, but frankly I don't trust Obama either.

The so called Ground Zero Mosque: A Project Based on Con-Men and Special Privileges

Labels: »

As I previously pointed out, you don’t have to get into Constitutional questions, sanctified ground, and other such issues to see the problem with the proposed “Ground Zero” mosque. There are two critical issues which should settle matters:
--On purely “normal” grounds of city regulations, legal requirements, and good business practices, this project should never have gotten off the ground. The developer has a bad record and is incapable of implementing the project, the financing isn’t there, and they don’t even own half the property in question.
--What we are dealing with, then, is not “Islamophobia” but special privileges accorded to a group beyond what others would have received. This has been done, in part, by politicians who wanted to bask in the light of pretended tolerance and ensure they weren’t accused of “Islamophobia.”
When democratic governments ignore their own laws and mass media stop reporting the news that means trouble. Now there’s even more evidence to support my thesis.
The project’s chief developer, Sharif el-Gamal, has been evicted from his Soho office for not paying $39,000 in back rent. It is just one more in a long string of http://www.nytimes.com/2010/09/17/nyregion/17rift.html?pagewanted=1&sq=fe...">brushes with the law by this man, whose sudden rise from wealth waiter to multimillionaire still cannot be explained. Nothing wrong with someone bettering himself but when the way it has happened is so mirky and the person is involved in such a controversial project that calls for some investigation being done.
Now the mosque's imam, Feisal Abdul Rauf, who has been painted by the mass media in near-saintly terms despite a history of radical Islamist statements, is showing his seamy side.  He's the owner of two New Jersey apartment buildings where he has refused to make repairs, endangering tenants' lives, and now is defying a court. See HERE and HERE for details. Here's a study of Rauf's record by a Muslim critic.
There are two additional lessons from this information.
--One tenant, Cindy Balko, said: "I've been here since the building opened [in 1990] and it hasn't been peaceful with this owner. He cares nothing about the people who live in this building. Not a thing....It's fine and dandy that he can build a mosque," Balko said. "But he doesn't take care of this building or the building around the corner, and he's going to take care of a mosque?"
Right. Equally, he cares nothing about the feelings of the people of New York or of the country who have asked that the mosque be moved. His response was to threaten them--only as an observer, of course--of massive violence in the Muslim-majority world and the killing of U.S. soldiers if they don't do what he wants.
--Rauf views himself as being above the law. Aside from all of the above points, he simply didn't show up for a court hearing, with no explanation, nor submit documents demanded by the judge who, understandably, blasted Rauf and his lawyer for their behavior.
But why shouldn't he think himself above the law when New York City and New York State has been so quick to treat him that way regarding the mosque issue, while the State Department send him on a free trip despite his lack of support for U.S. foreign policy (a requirement, even if they don't admit that publicly) and doesn't spring into action to investigate reports that he is using the trip to raise money (a violation of State Department regulations).
The buildings are so dangerous that Union City, NJ, is suing him to take them over. The risk of fire is considered so dangerous that taxpayers there must pay for a fire watch. Tenants are living amidst leaks, mold, bedbug and rodent infestation, as well as fire hazards. according to the city's mayor.
As a "man of God" who talks about morality all the time, bridge-building, etc., it is particularly egregious for Rauf to act this way. Given the fact that he knows he is controversial and people can be expected to look for "dirt" on him, it is reckless behavior and shows dangerous character flaws. Or maybe he isn't worried about the mass media investigating him because it hasn't up until now done so.
This is a pattern seen around the world, including the failure to report on key indicators of what radical Islamists think and do, see here and here for examples. When political extremists and criminal con-men receive, respectively, concessions and flattery or special privileges they don't respond with gratitude but with increased aggression and rapacity. They conclude that they are entitled to everything they want and act accordingly.

Spain: Disco changes name after 20 years to appease Muslims, avoid jihad

Religion of peace strikes again. Threatening war…over a night club.
via Discotheque to change its name after Muslim protests
MURCIA (SPAIN): A Spanish discotheque called Mecca which has angered Muslims will change its name, a Muslim representative said on Thursday in the southern city of Murcia.
The discotheque in Aguilas near Murcia will also modify controversial features of its architecture, said Mohammed Reda el-Qady, secretary of the Union of Islamic Communities in Murcia.
Features that were deemed offensive by Muslims included a minaret-like tower, a blue dome with a half-moon on top which made the building look like a mosque, and verses of the Quran inside.
The discotheque owners reached an agreement with local Muslims after its name and style sparked a wave of protests on the internet.
A hacker even broke into the website of the establishment, threatening with “a war between Spain and the people of Islam”.
The discotheque was criticised as far as Morocco, and the Algerian ambassador to Spain commented on the affair, saying the name Mecca was “not a brilliant idea”.
“We thought the name was just a minor detail, but for (the Muslims) it was a really big thing,” said Pedro Morata, one of the owners of the establishment.
The discotheque had existed under the name Mecca for more than 20 years, but it was closed for most of that time. It only came into the spotlight when new owners reopened it in August.
Again, Muslim hackers go to work. A growing trend. Just last week Muslims hacked one of Rifqa Bary’s ex-lawyers websites.

they want to preserve their racial privilege in the Jewish state. They also want to shear the Gaza Strip from Palestine.

no... that is what Abbas asked for.  Bibi asked for nothing of the kind.  (though I would say we should throw out all people who believe the Hadith of the Tree of the Jews... but that has nothing to do with race)

Nick Clegg: There Is No Future for Us as Left-wing Rivals to Labour

Labels: »
THE TELEGRAPH: Nick Clegg has said that there is no future for the Liberal Democrats as a left wing party.
The Deputy Prime Minister said he sympathised with voters who had turned to his party as an alternative to Labour and were unhappy that they had formed a coalition with the Conservatives.
But he risked alienating key supporters by dismissing those who see the Lib Dems as “a sort of left-wing conscience of the Labour Party”.
"There were some people, particularly around the height of the Iraq war, who gave up on the Labour Party and turned to the Liberal Democrats,” he said.
"I totally understand that some of these people are not happy with what the Lib Dems are doing in coalition with the Conservatives. The Lib Dems never were and aren't a receptacle for left wing dissatisfaction with the Labour Party. There is no future for that; there never was," he told the Independent. >>> Heidi Blake | Saturday, September 18, 2010
...so then what are the Liberal Democrats about? no... really

Will America Ban Criticism of Islam? Reward of $10,000 says it will

Labels: »

A $10,000 reward fund for information leading to the identification of the person or persons involved in the recent Quran burning in East Lansing will be announced today, East Lansing City Manager Ted Staton said Tuesday.

Staton made the announcement at the East Lansing City Council’s Tuesday work session at East Lansing’s 54-B district court.
The money will be taken from the city’s general fund and the city will be accepting donations, he said. The amount of money given to any individual who comes forth with information will be determined based on the value of the information obtained, he said.
"We have used this before," he said. "We think oftentimes people who commit acts like this tend to talk about it. We might find out how extensive these conversations have been". . .
The pages were strewn up and down Harrison Road, said Dawud Walid, executive director of the Michigan chapter of the Council on American Islamic Relations, or CAIR-MI. . .
The Islamic Center was informed of the reward fund’s creation Tuesday morning, Islamic Center spokesman Abdalmajid Katranji said. Support from city officials and the local community has been tremendous, he said.
"This is exactly what we know of the community of East Lansing," Katranji said. "It’s a very welcoming community. It’s been a home to us for decades, and it will continue to be a home for us." (More)
...hey but didn't Justice Breyer say Quran burning is protected by the Constitution?
