Bill Clinton

Ex-President Bill Clinton, who is 63, was hospitalized in New York City today for chest pains.

Clinton was rushed to Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in Manhattan where he had bypass surgery in 2004.

Clinton's wife, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, was seen this afternoon leaving the Oval Office and did not seem "too concerned" or "in a rush." The secretary is scheduled to begin a five-day trip to Qatar and Saudi Arabia this weekend and there was immediate indication those plans have been changed, although the secretary did fly to New York City this weekend.

For $177, a Bagel Sandwich and ... the Kitchen Sink? - NYTimes.com

Labels:
Apparently a New York Democrat tried to get reimbursed for a $177 Bagel. I found this story in the New York Times, that sometimes has a story actually about New York... kind of like a Bagel page that isn't always about Bagels.

Mr. Seabrook submitted a receipt to the North East Bronx Community Democratic Club, seeking reimbursement for club-related expenses. Among other charges, he was accused by prosecutors of steering corrupt payments to the political club, which he controlled, and then taking the money for his own use, often by submitting fraudulent receipts. Mr. Seabrook has pleaded not guilty.

Among the items in the 13-count federal indictment was the curious case of the $177 bagel sandwich and soda. Mr. Seabrook, a Bronx Democrat and former assemblyman and former state senator, bought a bagel sandwich and diet soda for $7 one day and submitted a doctored receipt that inflated the cost to $177, according to the indictment.

The most expensive bagel at Norma’s, the restaurant at Le Parker Meridien Hotel on West 56th Street, has three layers, five ounces of smoked salmon and three kinds of caviar, for $23. Norma’s also is the home of the $1,000 lobster-and-caviar frittata, an Italian omelet (“Norma dares you to expense this,” the menu reads), so it seemed reasonable to ask Steven Pipes, the hotel’s managing director, what their $177 bagel sandwich might look like.

Mr. Pipes proposed a menu addition called the Larry B. Bagel Special: an H & H bagel with cream cheese and scrambled eggs, served open-faced with a third of an ounce of white Alba truffles, which cost $6,000 to $10,000 per pound. At $177, would anyone really order it? “Absolutely,” Mr. Pipes said. “Especially if it’s a politician.”

Charlie Wilson dead at 76

Labels:
I realize that this guy set the bar for selling out to the Jihad and getting Hollywood to love him for it, but maybe his policy wasn't good? Perhaps the cocaine use was the positive part of the guy? Read the Quran and the Hadith and find out what we were supporting. The Soviets would of fallen anyway.

Former Rep Charlie Wilson, the East Texas Democrat who successfully funneled millions of dollars in covert aid to the Mujahideen rebels in Afghanistan during the 1980's has died at age 76 in Lufkin, TX, apparently of cardiac arrest.

"Good Time Charlie" established an early D. C. reputation as a hard-partying womanizer (he publicly referred to Rep. Patsy Schroeder as "Congresswoman Babycakes" and Rep. Bella Abzug as "Toots") but later distinguished himself as a strong supporter of the US military and a die-hard opponent of global Communist expansion.

Wilson's efforts to bring about the defeat of the Soviets in Afghanistan were chronicled in the book and movie "Charlie Wilson's War," which Wilson himself said he enjoyed.

As a kid growing up in Southeast Texas during the 1970's, I remember Charlie Wilson making the news quite frequently, usually in connection with partying, alleged cocaine use, or taxpayer-funded junkets with a bevy of attractive young women. But I wish today's Democrats were as serious about stopping the global menace of terrorism as Charlie Wilson was about defeating communism.

Cast Lead - New species of militants - Civilians

Labels: »

After Operation "Cast Lead", "The Palestinian Centre for Human Rights" (PCHR) published a list of its casualties. This Centre which is based in the Gaza Strip, gathered comprehensive details regarding the casualties, but chose to distort the findings. Instead of recording militants fighting for terror organizations as "militants", it chose to record them as "civilians".

This same Centre claims that: "The Zionist Occupation Forces Murder Civilians". It is therefore not at all surprising, that this Centre also spreads lies with the specific aim of demonizing the Israel Defense Forces, which embarked upon Operation "Cast Lead". To date, the media and human rights organizations have completely ignored the IDF's statements regarding the sum of militant casualties. Instead they choose to perpetuate the lie that "most casualties of Operation "Cast Lead" were civilians".
