The argument is that we should reach out to the International Community more...Indonesian authorities said Monday they are considering a petition to tear down a statue of US President Barack Obama as a boy, only a month after the bronze was unveiled in Jakarta.
The statue of “Little Barry” -- as Obama was known when he lived in the capital in the late 1960s -- stands in central Jakarta’s Menteng Park, a short walk from the US president’s former elementary school.
Critics say the site should have been used to honour an Indonesian and 55,000 people have joined a page on social networking website Facebook calling for the statue to be removed.“We’ve been discussing for the past two weeks what to do with the statue… whether to take it down, move it elsewhere or retain it. We’re finding the best solution,” Jakarta parks agency official Dwi Bintarto said.

I'm disgusted. Obama takes most of Hamas off the terrorism list so they can get Western funding, but at least Canada sees the danger and ended all funding to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNWRA). The money simply goes straight into the Palestinian Authority's (PA) general treasury, where it might be used for humanitarian projects or might be used to arm and train terrorists
As America continues to drop the ball as fighter for freedom and democracy, it is reassuring to see others pick up the slack. America has abdicated its divine role as the world's leading force for good and right under Obama's rule, and instead has aligned the country with the dark and evil axis.
We do not lead the way, and it is a dark time for proud Americans -- and worse yet for those across the globe who look to America as a beacon, a light unto the nations.
But Canada has taken up the slack under the brave stewardship of Stephen Harper. While Obama is busy removing Hamas from the terror list so that the jihad can be better funded, Harper is cutting off the snake.
"Canada has just become the first Western government to cut off aid to UNRWA, the UN agency that runs Palestinian “refugee” camps and does so much to abuse and radicalize Palestinians and prevent any resolution of the conflict."
"Although UNWRA has long been a biased player in the Arab-Israeli conflict, it is seldom criticized for its incitement of anti-Israeli hatred and violence by
Palestinians. It has funded textbooks that deny the right of Israel to exist and
paid teachers who call on Palestinian children to push the Jewish state into the sea. It harbours radical Islamists and anti-Semites on its payroll and was even caught in 2004 using its own ambulances to ferry terrorists away from Israeli sites they had just attacked."
US Terror Blacklist Whitewashes Hamas, Enables Funding (IsraelNN.com) The United States Treasury has taken all but one member of Hamas off the international list of terrorists, thus enablingfunds from the European Union to enter Hamas-controlled Gaza.
Since last fall, the federal Conservative government has been withdrawing taxpayer funding from non-governmental organizations (NGOs) that use their grants to take sides against Israel in the Middle East conflict. Now comes word that last week, Ottawa told the United Nations it would no longer fund the world body's Palestinian refugee agency. From now on, Canadian aid to Palestinians will be directed to specific projects. We will no longer give lump-sum aid to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNWRA), since most of that money simply goes straight into the Palestinian Authority's (PA) general treasury, where it might be used for humanitarian projects or might be used to arm and train terrorists.
This is a bold move for Ottawa, which is the first Western government to cut off funding for UNWRA.
Although UNWRA has long been a biased player in the Arab-Israeli conflict, it is seldom criticized for its incitement of anti-Israeli hatred and violence by Palestinians. It has funded textbooks that deny the right of Israel to exist and paid teachers who call on Palestinian children to push the Jewish state into the sea. It harbours radical Islamists and anti-Semites on its payroll and was even caught in 2004 using its own ambulances to ferry terrorists away from Israeli sites they had just attacked.
But most politicians and journalists consider UNWRA to be sacrosanct. Too many swallow whole the agency's assurances that it is not involved in promoting terrorism and anti-Israeli sentiments in the West Bank and Gaza. Criticism of it always elicits howls that UNWRA's mission is only to care for four million refugees in 59 camps and promote peace and understanding in the region.
So rather than get dragged into a public relations war with the UN and its acolytes, last week, before Prime Minister Stephen Harper shuffled his Cabinet, then-Treasury Board President Vic Toews informed UNWRA and the PA that from now on, Canadian aid would be earmarked to specific projects, chosen by Ottawa, such as food aid.
Ottawa also announced it would defund Alternatives, a Montreal NGO that two summers ago organized an education camp in Quebec, welcoming "500 motivated militants" from Lebanon, Iraq, "Palestine" and Venezuela.
International Development Minister Bev Oda withdrew $7-million in tax dollars, too, from KAIROS, an "ecumenical partnership" that had adopted a vehemently anti-Israel policy and been at the forefront of boycotts against the importation of Israeli goods and visits by Israeli professors.
For too long, Ottawa has subsidized NGOs that claim to be after peace, but that in truth seek to demonize Israel. It's good the Conservatives are seeking to halt these attacks.
The United States Treasury has taken all but one member of Hamas off the international list of terrorists, thus enabling funds from the European Union to enter Hamas-controlled Gaza.
It is an open secret that large sums of money from the EU flow into Gaza in the guise of humanitarian aid and salaries for officials, but are actually funneled into the coffers of Hamas, which controls Gaza with an iron grip. This method of transferring funds into terrorists' hands could have been blocked by an international lawsuit, but according to journalist Avi Tarango, the United States Treasury has made this impossible by removing all but one Hamas man – Deputy Chairman of the Political Bureau, Musa Abu Marzouk – from the list of international terrorists. The updated terrorist list, published last week, takes up 443 pages. However, according to Tarango, who went over the list, none of the tens of thousands of people who form Hamas is mentioned – other than Abu Marzuk, who resides in Damascus. The terrorist list is meant for distribution in the world banking system, where the transfer of funds to anyone on the list is prohibited.
Cleared for Funding
Abu Marzouk is listed as having been born in Gaza on February 9, 1951, and as bearing an Egyptian passport with the number 92/664. “While branches of Hamas appear in the list under different names, such as 'The Students of Ayash,' 'The Muslim Brotherhood in Gaza,' 'The Iz A-Din El-Kassam Battalions,' the rest of Hamas's men do not appear on the list at all,” Tarango said.
"Musa Abu-Marzouk's presence on the list means that whoever tries to transfer money to him personally will be rejected by the world banking system and be accused of funding terrorism, but the transfer of funds to any other Hamas man will not arouse suspicion,” he explained.
According to published reports and other sources, the journalist said, the EU sends millions of Euros every month to cover the salaries of 77,000 employees of the Palestinian Authority and about 70,000 recipients of welfare aid in Gaza.
“EU laws define Hamas as a terror organization and therefore the EU people need to verify on a name-by-name basis that none of the people receiving salaries and support is a terrorist,” Tarango said. “This is done by the EU's cash transfer mechanism, PEGASE, which verifies that none of the recipients of salaries are members of Hamas's police force or activists of the military wing of Hamas, by comparing the names as received from the PA treasury department with the list of international terror activists. However, since the newly-updated list contains no Hamas officials except for Marzouk, the European check will find nothing and the funds for Gaza salaries will be transferred in whole to the Gaza banks.”
Here is what Hamas believes:
Hamas was created to annihilate the Jews. It is their charter, the Hamas Charter
"Israel will exist and will continue to exist until Islam will obliterate it, just as it obliterated others before it." (The
Martyr, Imam Hassan al-Banna, of blessed memory)."The Islamic Resistance Movement believes that
the land of Palestine is an Islamic Waqf consecrated for future Muslim generations until Judgement Day. It, or any part
of it, should not be squandered: it, or any part of it, should not be given up. ""There is no solution for the Palestinian
question except through Jihad. Initiatives, proposals and international conferences are all a waste of time and vain
endeavors.""After Palestine, the Zionists aspire to expand
from the Nile to the Euphrates. When they will have digested the region they overtook, they will aspire to further
expansion, and so on. Their plan is embodied in the "Protocols of the Elders of Zion", and their present conduct is the
best proof of what we are saying."
In a Sunday report aired on Germany’s public broadcaster WDR, Brinkmann said he fears Germany is becoming “too foreign” and that Sharia law will be introduced in the country. “However, there are no, or very few, politicians who take this seriously,” Brinkmann said.
Geert Wilders does, that’s why he is in the dock. So is Philip DeWinter, from Vlaams Belang. The cowards, the sheeple and the Socialist disinformation machine are in overdrive to serve their Mohammedan masters….
Somehow, the promise that communal buildings like synagogues and schools would be exempt from the 'freeze' did not bother the Netanyahu - Barak government. And if the 'religious parties' are going to object to the wanton destruction of a synagogue, I haven't heard it yet.
A resident of Nachliel told Arutz Sheva that the synagogue was completed a month before the 'freeze' went into effect.
In an interview with Arutz 7, a resident of Nachliel said that the synagogue demolished Tuesday by police, soldiers, and Civil Authority workers, had been built long before the building freeze in Judea and Samaria went into effect. The structure, which had been in use daily, sustained tens of thousands of shekels worth of damage. "This was a shameful destruction," he said. "All of the holy books are strewn about the floor, as are the mezuzot. We intend to begin rebuilding today," said Avi Cohen, a Nachliel resident. Cohen said that the building had been completed on 11 Cheshvan (October 29).
Cohen said that he begged with authorities to spare the building, but to no avail – and that after much pleading they let him remove the Torah scroll from the building. "It is unbelievable that they would destroy a synagogue without thinking twice, but they would not dare to touch a mosque," he said.
The newspaper quotes Kevin Ovenden, an aide to anti-Israel MP George Galloway, as saying that in two months' time, even before the next Lifeline convoy sets off, several other aid ships will leave Mediterranean ports for Gaza.
The ships will set off for Gaza in March, in a convoy initiated by a Hamas terror activist who received political asylum in Britain. The man, Muhammad Sualha, stated in a pro-Hizbullah website that the convoy will include six or seven ships that will depart from Turkey, Greece and Cyprus simultaneously.
"This time we want a direct confrontation with the Zionist enemy,” he explained. Sualha was a propaganda liaison for Hamas in Judea, Samaria and Gaza in the 90s.
The Lifeline 3 convoy reached Gaza January 6 after long delays, organized violence and clashes with Egyptian security forces. A Hamas-sponsored riot in support of the convoy culminated in the fatal shooting of an Egyptian border guard by a Hamas sniper. Galloway and other members of the convoy were deported from Egypt and the Egyptian government declared that the British MP was no longer welcome in the country. No similar convoys would be allowed to pass through Egypt in the future, Egypt said.
I’m against obnoxious, far-left U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer as much as the next person with a brain. And I hope a good, solid conservative beats her in the 2010 elections. But, with liberal, failed former Hewlett-Packard CEO Carly Fiorina in the lead, that person has yet to emerge big (it’s Chuck DeVore, who doesn’t have quite the money the others do). And it certainly isn’t liberal, pan-terrorist former Republican Congressman Tom Campbell. If you live in California or know those who vote there, please do everything you can to stop this man.
Jihad-enabling GOPer Tom Campbell Wants to be California’s U.S. Senator
It isn't the bikini that is the problem. It is that Scott Brown is their father. This is incestuous exhibitionism. I would also like to criticize other "fathers" that do this to their daughters. I understand that your daughters do like it... and it makes Daddy feel like the Alpha Male he might feel he never was, but there is something incestuous about it. There is something that needs to be ironed out here. I don't think he is sleeping with his daughters... but this is inappropriate. People might say this is no big deal, but only because our culture does the father, daughter kinky social pose too often. It needs to stop. I understand that a lot of fathers do this... and this is why we need to say it isn't cool. forgivable... yes. I understand our culture thinks this isn't weird, but it is very brave of Debbie Schlussel to say something:
As readers know, I’m happy Scott Brown was elected as the new U.S. Senator from Massachusetts and I criticized Glenn Beck for his unhinged comments about Brown joking about his daughters being available. His comment that this is all going to end “with a dead intern” was ridiculous.Still, some readers noted this photo, below, of Brown posing with his daughters, one of them in clam shells, which–if she weren’t flat-chested–wouldn’t cover much, and barely do, as it is. I gotta say, the picture looks like a tourist guy posing with waitresses at Honolulu Hooters. It appears they’re posing at some Hawaiian-themed luau-style party at their home.
Still, I can’t imagine most sane, protective fathers allowing their daughters to wear that kind of get-up, much less posing proudly with her in it. There’s something weird about it. It’s hardly a bikini. A certain “conservative” columnist–her name is Fraudkin–thinks it’s no big deal, while she’s made a career of attacking left-wing celebs who wear far more, but are still dressed immodestly (including Billy Ray Cyrus who posed in photos with daughter Miley). Hey, double-standards are under-rated, right? Yes, I didn’t have much of a problem with Brown’s posing nearly naked in Cosmopolitan magazine in 1982, which was 28 years ago. But it’s a different standard for guys (who pose shirtless all the time, etc. ), and he wasn’t exactly posing with his mother.
Let’s hope that in the future, Brown uses a little more fatherly and personal discretion. And also keep in mind, on the other hand, that if this were Ted Kennedy, he wouldn’t just be posing with them, he’d be forcing himself on top of them in a drunken stupor in the middle of a restaurant at lunchtime (or driving them into a river to die).
I’m sure he’ll be the best U.S. Senator we could imagine (and better) from Massachusetts. What do you think of the photos? Would you let your daughter or grand-daughter wear the clam shell pasties look?
I'm not sure if the Israelis and Americans beat their wives more then they would be happy. We could never compete with the Saudis and the rest of the unoccupied Islamic world. Sadly there is nothing we can do. We try our best, but we just can't make our culture exactly like Arab culture. Maybe if we did then Gloria Steinem would support us instead of Palestine.
In 2002, in an updated version of her book The Price of Honor, British-American (and anti-Zionist) journalist Jan Goodwin claims that the Israeli military policies of self-defense have emasculated Palestinian men. Curfews keep grandiose, woman-hating, and honor- and shame-reared men at home for long hours. Based on anecdotal evidence, Goodwin believes that such men take their considerable frustrations out on women and children. Here, Goodwin quotes Suha Sabbagh, who says that the “Palestinian male, a father, the authority figure in the house, has lost all his authority.” Goodwin dwells on the systematic “humiliation” of the Palestinian man by the Israelis. She writes: “Much of this belittling has taken place in front of their children and womenfolk,” which in turn has “cut down” the image of the Palestinian man as the family’s “hero” figure. “For Arab men, this is the same as losing their masculinity.”
And here Goodwin, like so many other feminists, contradicts herself. Arab and Muslim overly vigilant paternal authority is precisely what has brutalized Arab and Muslim women. In 1992, Jean Sasson published Princess: A True Story of Life Behind the Veil in Saudi Arabia. The unnamed al-Saud princess (whose story Sasson tells), describes the typically cruel way in which fathers, brothers, and husbands treat their “womenfolk.” Let me quote her: “The authority of a Saudi male is unlimited; his wife and children survive only if he desires. In our homes, he is the state…From an early age, the male child is taught that women are of little value…the child witnesses the disdain shown his mother and sisters by his father; this leads to his scorn of all females…[the] women in my land are ignored by their fathers, scorned by their brothers, and abused by their husbands.”
Iranian-Swiss Carmen bin Laden, in her book Inside the Kingdom, portrays life for women under Saudi male rule similarly. Women cannot go out without a male escort and they cannot leave the house or the county without male permission and accompaniment. A daughter can be married against her will, a father can seize custody of his children and not allow their mother to ever see them again. Bin Laden writes: “I rarely met a Saudi woman who was not afraid of her husband…A wife cannot do anything without her husband’s permission. She cannot go out, cannot study, often cannot even eat at his table. Women in Saudi Arabia must live in obedience, in isolation, and in the fear that they may be cast out and summarily divorced.”
Saudi Arabia has not been “settled,” “colonized,” or “humiliated,” by Israelis.
Jordan has not been “settled,” “colonized,” “occupied,” or “humiliated” by Israel. And yet, Jordan has a high rate of honor killing. According to Elaine Sheeley, in her 2007 book Reclaiming Honor in Jordan, nineteen to one hundred honor killings take place in Jordan each year. Based on another author’s use of United Nations statistics, Sheeley also cites a much larger number of honor killings in Jordan, Gaza, and the West Bank. (I am not sure how they came to this figure or if it is at all accurate but the number given is 2,550 per year).
Due to the Bedouin leadership, honor killing is rampant in Jordan; the police jail the intended victims (for their safety) rather than the potential perpetrators; and even the King dare not sign into law serious sentencing consequences for an honor killing. Judges are allowed to use their discretion in sentencing and sentences are very light.
Egypt is not colonized by Israel, and yet serious violence against women is common there. This includes female genital mutilation, wife-beating, daughter-beating, forced marriages—and, with the rise of the Muslim Brotherhood, the forced veiling of previously modern women.
The Lancet researchers operated in exceedingly bad faith both academically and politically. For example, they write: “Occupation policies, including a separation barrier that is being erected in various parts of the West Bank, affect family connectedness, depriving women of regular contact with their families who might otherwise intervene to prevent intimate-partner violence.”
Palestinian, Arab, and Muslim families do not intervene when a husband is beating a wife. On the contrary. Both the husband’s family and the wife’s own family view this as a husband’s right or as a wife’s fault. These researchers have got to know that. Thus, they are playing to western naivete or ignorance about this by claiming the Israeli road blockades are stopping such imaginary, pro-woman family interventions.
This is certainly not the first time that Lancet has played fast and loose with the truth–hiding behind their presumed stellar reputation as a scientific and academic journal. UC Berkeley Professor of Statistics, Dr. Mark van der Laan, (who is considered the #1 statistician in the world), and novelist and columnist Leon de Winter, carefully critiqued a 2004 report in Lancet whose findings took the world by storm. In both 2004 and 2006, using highly questionable methodology, Lancet authors published two surveys which grossly exaggerated (or grossly underestimated) the number of deaths in Iraq under American occupation. Van der Laan and de Winter argue that the methodology utilized was so unreliable that one cannot trust it. They also note that coincidentally, the first set of findings and the headlines they engendered appeared four days before the American election of 2004. In their words:
“We also conclude that the estimates based upon these data are extremely unreliable and cannot stand a decent scientific evaluation. It may be that the number of violent deaths is much higher than previously reported, but this specific report, just like the October 2004 report, cannot support the estimates that have been flying around the world on October 29, 2006. It is not science. It is propaganda.”
I am not denying that war is Hell or that women do not often bear the brunt of war-related male frustration at home. I am challenging how Israel is being blamed in this study for a war that in truth, was declared long ago against the Jewish state by the Arab League, the Palestinian Authority, and more recently, by Hamas and Hezbollah. I am challenging the “politics” of both this study and of Lancet, whose aim is to scapegoat Israel for the barbarism and misogyny which is indigenous to Arab and Muslim culture, even more so, when jihad and terrorism dominate the world.
Amit Arusi, a 24-year-old Israeli tourist visiting Bolivia, was stabbed to death in the capital La Paz Sunday night, apparently during a robbery. His family was notified of his death, and is in contact with the Foreign Ministry.
According to information received by the ministry, Arusi resisted a robbery, and was stabbed. The Foreign Ministry noted that since there are no diplomatic ties with Bolivia, the matter was being handed via the Israeli embassy in Peru.
Arusi's family told Ynet that he was stabbed while trying to defend his girlfriend from being assaulted by an unknown assailant.
The tourist's body is to undergo an autopsy before being flown back to Israel. The family is being updated on the details.
This is not the first time an Israeli tourist falls victim to a violent robbery abroad. Last year, 26-year-old Itai Shechter Elias of Ashkelon was shot to death by robbers in Costa Rica.
Elias was shot dead when he and his brother pleaded with the robbers not to take their passports.
Several weeks later a 23-year-old Israeli backpacker was shot in Bogota, Colombia. He survived the shooting. A friend who was traveling with the victim told Ynet at the time, "My friends were standing outside the club and heard gunshots. They must have been killing some criminal. My friend, who had nothing to do with it, got shot in the back.
"My friends ran to evacuate him to hospital in a taxi, but the driver would take them. They were forced to leave the area when he had a bullet in his back, and searched for a way to make it to the hospital. Eventually they got into a police car."
Bolivia cut diplomatic ties with Israel during Operation Cast Lead
in Gaza last year. Bolivian President Evo Morales said at the time, "I would like to declare, that in light of the severe violations against human life and humanity, Bolivia is cutting diplomatic ties with Israel."
